Heehee woot 6 pages to welcome me!! Yuss!! Well... you may all be proud of me... but... you see here's a story...

In the weekend my bf's new 4wd blew up. The water pipe thingy came off the radiator and cooked the head. It's fucked the engine. So because he's a uni student, and $2500 is ALOT of money to pay on a car that only cost him a grand more than that, he's going to borrow money, put a new engine in, and probably sell it. However, the consequence to that is... no more 4wd trips for me :( so ..I was thinking... cause I need a new car for running around in anyways ($80 a week on gas is kinda expensive when it's just to work and back) I was thinking I may get a little 4wd just for during the week... And let my bf borrow it from time to time to do 4wding (as long as he takes me  ) or hunting (if he doesn't thrash it!!), but like as a short term thing untill he can afford another little 4wd of his own. It's crucial though that he takes me 4wding lol. When he told me the head was cooked I was like aww

Haahaa and you guys only think my cars hot cause you want the engine right????   It's in top knick too now... Only cause I've had to fix the bloody thing up. And they say woman don't know a thing about cars.... I don't know much about the engine but I sure as hell know it's in alot better condition than when I bought it

So... The bf has the vitara at the garage at the moment and the new engine is to be put in either today or tomorrow... he's still tossing up whether to sell it, or just keep it. Selling it he's likely to make a profit and can then pay his olds back the $2500 for the new motor, and just buy a cheep wee car or 4wd etc...... or just pay his olds back the $2500...

What do you guys think would be the best idea in your opinion?

Also, if I sell my Supra, what's the most reliable and economic wee car or 4wd etc? (and I know from experience not all of you first started out with the whole 4wd scene.. some of you USED to be boy racers  ) I'm not looking for anything too flashy... just something decent.

Also, what's the most useful thing to have on your 4wd apart from rated tow hooks... like snorkel, tyres, suspension lifts etc.... what would you first do to your 4wd if you could only do one thing at a time?

go to bed little girl

you're as bad as me sitting on the computer in the wee hours of the morning.

seriously though, you will get a lot of advice, but my 2c is that the single best thing you can do to get more out of your 4wd is to buy some good mud tyres so you can go further and then work on all the other goodies later when you can afford to by more toys for your wagon.

cheers

Ditto. First thing you should get is tyres. The next million dollar question is "which tyres are best?" May the opinions begin.

Lol, I'm not a little girl... I'd rather do something productive rather than lie in bed and not sleep though. I don't sleep very well. Anyways so tyres ya reckon...? You wouldn't want just mud only tyres though right? You'd want the closest thing to it, but still road useable right? Also, is there a difference between quality and brands at all?

savero m/t's are good for biggeners, so ive been told (ive got them on the surf aswell and they take me prity far..)

ive had them on there ever since i got the surf about 9 months or so ago, And theres still the same amount of tread on there as there was wen i got it(well just about).

ive got 31'' tires, I think they will be to big for a sizuki?, 29-30'' i think will fit? someone els will confirm this..

Tyres. I have been running BF Goodrich Mud Terrain as full time tyres for about three years now. Done 45000 kms and they are only half worn. Keep in mind, once you change one thing it will lead to another.

Bigger tyres = now you need higher suspension
Higher suspension = now you need to your steering componentary and possibly driveshafts
Bigger tyres + high suspension = engine is now too weak to turn them over, need a V8 transplant.

So the story goes. I would say start a new thread separate to this one.

I would go with BFG mud tyres, had them on my 413 for 5 years first 3 years it was driven almost everywhere unless it was to a sunday competition, had good wear properties and in my opinion I would say the BEST ALL SURFACE tyre, for any given surface these will not be the best or worse but seem capable for all
