Its on again! the first north island comp of the year 7th-9th march. a clubmans comp will be run in conjunction with the main event,( WOF, REG, four point cage etc) marshals needed also. For details go to http://www.norwestohv.co.nz/winch_challenge.htm

ok peeps for your infomation the cost of entry is as follows, dont leave it too late!
Entries received before 13th February 2007 $250-00

Entries Received 14th February 2007 onwards $400-00

you may think that the late entry is steep but there are things we need to order, marshal numbers to confirm, even the amount of dunny rolls we need! the sooner we have the required info the better the comp will be.
yes a couple of trucks made a "donation" last year but tony and mike who eventually won in shirmn last year had to pay the late entry fee!
The tracks have been sorted and shall be driven in the near future, they are looking gooood, only a couple of sidlings in the mix but plenty of technical driving and you will be using all of your recovery gear!!!
the club entrys will be driving the same tracks but will have detours around sections that the track setter has deemed too dangerous or not suitable for club truck entrys.

hi all, just a reminder that the cut off date is almost here before the late fee becomes applicable. feb 14th is the date and entrys are filling up so dont be left dissapointed, get em on in!!
if you cant make it to race come on up and enjoy our hospitality and marshal for a day. details follow.
if you are wanting to watch the event public access is at the kumeu show only. there is only teams and event staff at the farm stages, corporate viewing can be arranged through the event organizer , all vehicles must be scrutineered before entering the farm, there is an extreme fire risk on the property at this time of the year.

Hi all

Its that time again. We've been out and marked the tracks. Taking the speed out by marking them a bit tighter
with hopefully more winching .
I'm looking for Marshall's to help control the event which starts Friday 7th March at Hansen's farm.
Midday scrutineering then off to play, I think one or two stages in the afternoon & then the night stage. (there will be winching & mud)
Finish some time not to late ha ha.
Marshall brief 730am Saturday 8th March Hansen's.
Grab LUNCH & DRINK ........yes food will be there for us before we depart for the tracks but don't forget if it is going to be hot bring more to drink.
The day will be split up into am & pm ( long day for some) with one group at Kumeu & the other at Hansen's. Swap at lunch (there might be a fun stage Saturday night).
Again briefing 730am Sunday 9th March. Two morning stages for all then down to Kumeu for special stage and prize giving.

Its going to be another good event so why not come and be a part of it

Here's one more new thing...... for those who help marshaling they will be given a Marshall's shirt sat & sun (screen printed and all). Its yours to keep.
I'm looking for about 12 Marshall's so if your keen or you know of some one who is please let me know (with shirt size)

PS This Sunday 10th feb we are going to be putting trucks trough the tracks to set DNF times start 9am Hansen's
come have a look \ help its a good Chance to view the tracks in full because on race day unfortunately you can not move around

Hi ,I would think its 1 because of the fire risk,2 Because this is a private working farm ,3 If its wet on the day this property can cause all sorts of problems with people who are inexperenced,proberly have something to do with insurance also.The easy way to watch is to Marshall for even 1 day then spectate on the others...

There never ha been! As far as I can remember it has always been viewing at the show only, people just turn up at Hansens and think they can wander around.

we did try public viewing last year but with the size of the property and locations of the stages it poses more problems than its worth, this is one of the reasons we have the super stage at the kumeu show as everything is controlled and we can showcase our sport to the public. we do have a little more freedom at the property than is otherwise possible on a regular farm as it has recourse consent to be used as a 4x4 park, even then there are restrictions on our events, you will notice that when russell holds enduros or trials and the public is allowed that the courses are all set close to the entry, that is because things like toilets, transport, crowd control etc are so much easier at the front of the property where as the winch tracks are out the back.
Monstr hit it on the head with his reply, we have been up there putting trucks through the stages today and even though we have had a drop of rain it has done nothing at all to ease the fire risk, as the event orginizer this problem is has got me very worried ( if anyone has a 4x4 fire truck or simmilar to lend us please contact me!!)
there are ways to view the event at the property but we need to account for all people on the property, marshalling is the easiest and best way to view and contrubute to the sport, contact me for more details.
on another tangent, the tracks were all run today, damage count wasnt that bad (hehe) the tracks are drying out fast so pray for a bit of rain in the couple of weeks before hand but we can still supply mud for you anyway. we dont have anything dangerous set, all tracks are able to be completed safely and if you have reliable gear and driving skills, consistancy should see you at the top of the leaderboard.

Darin had a bit of a problem down at the show grounds his throttle got stuck at full noise launched out of a hole over a huge tractor tyre and was heading towards the crowd befor he managed to hit the kill switch,he ended up with a bent chassis broken engine mounts etc,I must say i watched this truck on a couple of tracks and i dont know how Darin keeps it on the track the power that it makes is scarey..

The good news is that a panel beater is going to straighten the chassis and then we will reinforce it to stop it happening again. I will also be modifying the accelerator pedal as I don't like being a passenger, when I'm supposed to be driving.
What happened is a dropped into a hole at the show a bit quick and bent the accelerator and jammed it at full throttle which with 280 kw at the wheels is pretty dam scary!! I am extremely thankful that I have a big kill switch fitted as otherwise I hate to think how long it would take to stop.
For those that don't know, a master kill switch is required in all winch trucks for next season. This is a classic example of why!

I think it should be called the "darin Kill switch" it should be big red and mounted ......somwhere handy !
Seriously your truck looks twitchy and fast looks like a lot of fun to drive shame the course at Norwest was so tight couldn't streech the legs easily. Have a look at the ORANZ short course racing "counties classic" and the woodhill 100 is coming up. They ORANZ have a class for the winch challenge vehicles, I keep winning my class as I am the only class6 that turns up.

UBZ , did you or anyone else get a photo of the two trucks who recovered Keri out of the swamp?

ORANZ events are in the plan but I need to get it completely sorted first? I really liked the way it handled at Nor-West. It was very pridictable and I was able to use the power when needed but also it would crawl around slowly with ease. When it got airbourne (which was quite a bit) i was landing very smoothly and flat so controlable. That was part of the problem at the show as it was so smooth that I didn't realise how fast I was going. More practice to understand the truck better.
A few things to change, which is being done at present and then we'll be ready for Vegas. I can't see it being ready for Woodhill though!
