I was thinking of making something along those lines as well , and something to protect my petrol tank. It started off as something to protect the fuel tank as it was because of the dent in it that made me miss the week end at the ashley. Dented the tank on my previous trip and it bent the fuel pump, which then crapped out on the way out to Rangiora.

Am I correct in thinking that if you weld anything to the chassis that you then need to get it certified, I was going to build mine as a bolt on version.

What are you driving Ray, guessing its Ray going by the username :)

Just use proper bolts,
Although there is no stress on them, I have now made new "C" channel mounts with 2 bolts. I also have an exo cage mounted to these steps, and after a recent heavy roll over (that squashed the cage through the cab) the steps have not moved. I also use my steps to spin the truck around rocks, again with no damage.
This has been all covered before somewhere on this site, try the search :P
Ugly is a state of mind..... and the state of my truck!

I just shelled out a couple of weeks ago and had some made for me

Its was $1300 for a set of bolt on ARB steps with side pars, compared with $600 that Bonecrusher from TeRapa 4x4 Parts and Repairs could build them for.

They are Fawkin awesome, he did a mint job!!!!

I've been slack, but I will get some better pic's and add them to my thread in the next few days 8)

just had mine finished by steve (supralux) 4wdstuff,mine and mike's was used as guinea pigs for these, mine were welded on and mikes bolted on ,mine has to be certed anyway and i dont ever see me taking them off,and if bend these well it will the least of my worries cause these are strong and built very well, and if they do need to come off i will just get the plasma out, any ch,ch folk want to see them on my truck just send me a PM and you can come round and see them and if you like them you can speak to steve, had the highlift jack under them and it was all good,

Like the looks of those things on your truck Rokhound, might build mine that way. I've got plenty of tube, just need to find a cheap supply of flat plate.

let me know how you get on with the plate i would be keen too..trouble with buying from steel mill is you have to get 6 meters and if youve got nothing else to do with it it turns out expensive option..

Last time I needed plate I told my lady I was going to teach her to weld and sent her off around the engineering shops begging for any scraps to learn welding, kept me going for months and she still cant weld a thing. Dont know that she was that impressed that she would do it again.

A good friend is a scrap metal dealer (Metal Man), might go see what he has.

I'll let you know how I get on Ray.

I'm guessing the write up on the Ashley trip was lost in the post, or the mud/river.

Thanks for the compliments on the bars above to those who made 'em :) They are labour intensive to make, hence the price (not to mention the price of steel! ye gods its gone through the roof...)

Ray, if you want I'll make you a set of budget ones for $180, and weld em on (or if you want to come and do some work on em to help out I'll make bolt on versions for that price). I'll write off the rest of the cost to product development and do it in memory of when everything I did that cost more than $5 had to be approved by my minister(ess) of war

Alternatively come and see me for steel, I have quite a bit on the rack if you want to just buy some and make your own
