*cough* Mike Smiths Classic that won NZ winch challenge and outback challenge and malaysian rainforest challenge *cough*

Nice vids Suprasurf, they do sound good :D !! Got to be better than the VN commondore conversion?? Saw one of these bout 6 years ago (3.8L), sounded good, but the conversion looked complicated...

I was going to comment on the amount of blue smoke the one at the end was blowing compared to my Disco and Rangie at the same angles but I guess all the oil had already leaked out of my rover V8's??!! 8) (a comment from a corgi owner to keep you happy DJ - we know your surf is faaaaaaar superior *inserts emoticon falling asleep*)

your education reprograming is almost complete except for a small but very important piece
its not "your surf is faaaaaaar superior" you should say " all Toyota's are faaaaaar superior". but beside that you are doing very well and we will soon have you out enjoying your self instead of fixing your 4wd every weekend.
Question (trival crap..) was the Disco assembled in the Honda factory or was it the Freelander? just curious!! :?:
cheers DJ
PS trade me is a good starting place to get rid of unwanted Discos and Rangi's

Ive seen the odd decent Toyota. hell I even nearly wanted an ole FJ40 after competing in one for a fun rally. Remember my Zuk is my weapon of choice, carry on all you like about rangies/disco's, I couldnt give a corgi shit either way :) .
But I am going to agree with you on one thing (no I havent sold my disco yet) but trademe is a good place for getting rid of british products.........thats where I picked up my latest Rangie :D

funny you should say toyotas are superior, they make the only engine i know where you can't get the oil filter off without burning your arms as it is behind the exhaust manifold :? how dumb is that?

then again some nissans have there oil filters over the exhaust so you get clouds of smoke after the oil change.

I think i'll stick with my mitsi and suzuki that although are quite simple are actually well designed

what year is your Surf? I'm pretty sure that the ifs problem is sump clearance. Your info on the engine bay being short is incorrect. Mine is a 1984 Surf I used the hilux radiator (Modified outlet) and there was a good 15mm between the rad and the crank pulley, I put electric fans in front of the radiator (must have with this conversion).
Also I ended up doing a 2inch body lift to make it abit easier to get to the top bellhousing bolts. It is a tight conversion, but once you've done it you'll think at it was ment to be that way. 8)
Hope this helps.
One more thing......... Empty engine bay...... How bout a SAS?? :D

Solid Axle Swap. Ditch the IFS it's only a matter of time before you get sick of lack of articulation.
I've got a set of springs, shackels, front hangers, shocks, shock mounts (for the chassis) and the diff locator arm with chassis mount. If your interested. Everything you'll need for a SAS except the diff.
I've put coils all round on my Surf so all those parts are stacked up in the corner of the garage.

If you do the SAS then you will not have to change the sump on the celia/supra motor. As for finding a diff you'll have to hunt around, maybe if you sent Suprasurf a private message and ask him nicely he might be able to help. You will have to match the diff ratios, if you don't know how to do this there are two ways. 1: remove the rear diff head, count the teeth on the ring and pinion gears, ring gear divided by pinion gear = ratio. 2: Jack the rear wheels off the ground, get someone underneath counting the driveshaft flange revs as you turn one wheel 10 revs, divide the flange revs by 10. 8)
Hope this helps, send me an email tomsoffroad@yahoo.com if you are interested in these parts I have. :D
