The Walking Access Bill and ORE

Post by smurf182 »

In short, I think there should be something like a scrolling banner or some other very prominently placed link to Peter Vahry's thread on the Walking Access Bill, on every page of the offroadexpress site. EVERY ORE member should be reading this thread, feeling disgusted, and firing off submissions to their MP and other appropriate people. As stated by Peter it will be a disaster for ALL forms of outdoor recreation using public land in NZ.

Here is the thread

You know what NZ needs? Some sort of submission management system that allows the plebs (yes, I consider myself a pleb) who isn't really sure how to go about making a submission to view a template that someone in the know has already created and fill out a form with their own details. Then they could either have it converted into a PDF that they can print or have it automatically emailed to the necessary person under their name.

Because to tell you the truth, I wouldn't have a clue where to start with any of that stuff, even though I know that it is in my best interest to get involved.

Worth thinking about...

Thanks for the interest guys, the problem with a "standard" type form is that the collectors of the comments usually lump similar content stuff together and it doesn't seem to carry the same heartfelt strength that an individual's letter does.

The words of Bruce Mason that are now included in the land access posting, may give some useful pointers and he has made a list of the things he thinks are vital. He's even supplied an address detail.

For politicians ... there is a list of those and their contact info, that can be found under the Walking Access heading on http://www.nzfwda.org.nz

Sorry to sound like a broken record, but I just don't think this is getting enough attention on ORE. The thread has only 210 views as of now.. and it's less than 3 weeks till submissions close. I realise you can lead a horse to water but maybe not make it drink - though surely it would be a tragedy if this law is passed in it's present form and no one even knew about their chance to have a say?

Is it possible to send a PM/email to every ORE member alerting them to this, maybe a brief outline and a link to Peter's Thread?

I know ORE isn't a political organisation, but when a piece of legislation threatens our common interest (seeing our awesome country by 4x4), I think it should be a bit more proactive.

Feel free to tell me to feck off and stop trying to run the site also. :)

This might make it simple for you keyboard cowboys to put your comments to the politicians....

Five steps and you reach all the MPs, well those who are in the country and those who bother to read emails!

Yes it's really easy to get those emails away to MPs. Although the site suggests that sending is delayed ,it appears from the replies coming back that the message is sent promptly. It even seems that some MPs might read their mail!

Now all we need is for a big effort to push the message.
