Hilux rear springs

I am wanting to put rear leaf springs into the front of my surf, does it affect the angle of the front diff? would I need to shim it, or lower the front or rear mounts? Also if I weld the shackle mounts on under the chassis instead of going htrough it, how much will this affect the angles??

I have to set up all front spring mounts as I am getting rid of IFS. I have all the spring and shackle hangers from an old hilux chassis Figured going under the chassis for the shackle hangers would be easier to mount and also it is instant lift. Only thing I am not sure on is, the mount under the chassis would be aprox 80mm lower then the original shackle mount through the chassis, so the front spring mount needs to come down as well, does the front need to come down further to keep the castor angle correct? if using a rear spring.
As for the steering, probably have to go to cross over, but if anyone has any cheaper options I would like to know about them.

I have the old 86 Surf, leaf spring rear.
Without sounding too ignorant, how does flipped arm x-over steering work?
May be heading to Chch in the next week or two to look at buying an earlier live axle surf, would like to see your work. Will let you know
I am planning to use a folding shackle in the front and a buggy leaf in the rear provided it isn't to unstable, maybe set up buggy leaf as a disconnect option??.
Get leafs set up first and I will slowly work on the rest ideas are bound to change as I go along

Is buggy leaf setup........ Mounting your shackle to an upturned leaf spring which is bolted to the chassis?

yep you are right
Have seen it done with either a half leaf bolted on behind bumpstop with two u-bolts and a locating pin, or, when longer leaves have been used, such as Falcon etc. A complete leaf inverted and fitted to the original hilux spring eye, with a clamp to limit droop on the inverted leaf about halfway along its length. Which also keeps the spring in line with the chassis as it droops. Had a few pics I was gonna post, but here are some links instead....

Do you reckon that I get away with this sort of set up in the front of a 84 surf? I've built a 3link aframe rear (photos in Photo album) and was thinking of a 5link for the front, but this might be easier. I might have to use a panhard rod to stop laterial movement and I'll be using x over steering eitherway.

Doing this to the shackle end of your front leaf would make your driveshaft bind when you drop a wheel

Cheers smurf, I've changed my mind, decided to use coils and rangie front trailing arms.
