just bought a landy

Post by drz400 »

I just bought a land rover today and i love it. Its a 1966 lwb wagon gear box has a tooth off 1st gear it has white spoke wheels and 33x12.5 tyres also has headers and is pretty tidy bar a couple a dents in the side . There seems to be very little rust and im going to make a new rear bumper thing at the back cause its bent. I allso am wanting to put in deisel motor i allready have td27 from a terrano but am unsure if it will go in.Or am i better to go with a ld28 or someting??

I have been given a gear box for free and it has a holden to landrover plate on it.
He has given me some other bits and pices too doors, canvas top for a short swb

Oh yea i paid $700 for it and has a current reg but is out of wof

have just spent the whole day working on it.
cut the side out as it had a big dent and welded in new panel
fixed a big dent with about a 300mm rip in the roof
fited alloy tread plate to tops of gaurds and bottom of back gaurds and sills.

next will be to repair the inside where the dent has damaged the floor

Yea ive had a flatdeck ute befor about the same year as this one but only used it for 4x4ing and the odd bit of fire wood. This one seems to be in good order and has very little rust almost none. The gear box is the main problem i dont realy know what im going to do with it but at the moment its giving me something to do . Only problem is ive just hurt my self at work and am on cruches so wont be doing shit to it..lol

Just don't use first until you get your back sorted. Start in second unless it's uphill, when you use second in low range & change to hi range as soon as you are rolling enough to keep moving. It will clunk a bit on the change but be OK & you have to rebuild or replace the tranny anyway...

Check &/or overhaul your spare box before you drop it in & replace the clutch cos second gear starts will eventually wear it out.

Hope it helps.

Yea the gear box thats in it is stufed you can only get it moving and then quickly change. secound gear start offs are a bit hard because of the big tyres. Im not going to use it untill the gear box is sorted . how do you put pictures up on this site.

You will need to put your picture on some free picture sharing website ( I use Photobucket,http://photobucket.com/)
Once your picture is on there you can copy and paste the links provided by Photobucket to get your image in these posts.
Register and upload a pic to Photobucket to see exactly what I mean. But basiscally you will see a picture which you have uploaded with some tags below it for various applications as labelled. Just highlight the required tag, IMG CODE in this case as in the picture below, and this code gets copied to your clipboard.
Image
To insert the image anywhere in you message you press and hold the "Ctrl" and "V" keys on your keyboard at the same time and the code gets copied and pasted and the right image will appear.

Simple as that.
1992 Land Rover Discovery V8i, 5 speed, 12000lbs winch, Salisbury rear, 110 front, 65mm spring lift, dents in every panel, Rallywoods pinstriping.
