Suggestions for replacement front seats in BJ73

Post by Slideways »

Just bought a BJ73 and its great but the front seats are pretty stuffed.

Just wondering if anyone can suggest good replacement seats that will suit and whether they can be fitted to the original brackets (pretty sure this is a wof requirement - otherwise may need a cert).

Obviously it'll be pretty unlikely to find a bolt in replacement but welding up brackets is fine by me.

Any info would be appreciated 8)

From memory you can unbolt your rails, if you measure the seat bolt pattern i think it is actually similar to the subaru seats. I don't even quote me on that, you would be better to measure what you have and see what you can make happen the Subaru rails are not suitable as one bolts to the trans tunnel.

The other two I have seen both have welded new mounts.

just tkinking you could use std rails and modify the seat bolt arangement through an adapter, as long as you use high tensile bolts you should be fine it is where the seat bolts to the car they are interested in.

Just make sure the adapters are strong enough so you can support you and the dog, Missus and dog larry the truck driver etc on them without bending.

Does your BJ73 have suspension seats?

If so don't go ditching that part of it!

I find I go blatting down the river bed nicely gliding up and down and then have to remember the back seat passengers who are on a non-suspension seat and a fairly flat, hard fold up one at that!
Sold my 1985, BJ74 MWB Landcruiser, rear locker, 33" MTs, snorkel, PTO winch, solid bars all round, spotties, AM CB etc.
Now just a 1994, 1kz Surf, pretty standard.

No suspension seats in mine, just solid mounted - look pretty standard though... guess it must have been the non-rock-crawling spec

Dammit Im sure my brother had some ae82 fxgt seats a while ago but they may have been chucked now!! :|

also thought I'd say I have a set of standard seats coming out of my BJ73 this week that you can have for $125 including freight if that guy on trade me will not ship, just need to keep them for a week till I have made the new mounts for my new vinyl ones. Cheers Stephen

Worth checking out the LVV threshold document, as it has a section relating to seat replacement. Seat can be OE from another brand or reputable aftermarket brand and mounted to unmodified OE mounting points (+ other clauses on location, seatbelts and airbags).

For this reason I have not replaced the uncomfortable Prado driver's seat I have. Designed for short Japanese drivers, not 6'3" ones. Head rest is more like shoulder rest.
