2.8 turbo low oil pressure

Post by smurfin »

hey all im new to the board
i own a 88 toyota surf and a 95 bmw m3
the surf goes nuts off road!!!! 31s locked front diff lsd rear(needs shimming) and tractor exhaust (big)
the old 2.4t was a joke so i biffed it and filled the hole with a early 90's hiace 3 L and got a turbo kit of a ln130 2.4 efi turbo
basicly the block and inernals is a 2.8 but ive used everything that bolts to it from the 2.4, oil pump and filter housing ect
when cold at idle oil pressurse is at the low mark on the gauge but when warm at idle pressure drops away to bugger all
do toyota restrict the turbo oil feed at all? (small hole in banjo bolt ect???)
the turbo isnt the healthyest, its blowing oil out the compressor side into the intake
ive just recon'd the engine so mechanicly it should be fine
many thanks in advance

OK the oil system is pressureised and there is a leak through the turbo seals and you are wondering about low oil pressure. Same oil goes through the turbo on its way back to the engine.

Most factory turbo's are built with brass bushes not bearings these bushes wear eventualy

sorry i shouldnt have been so vauge
the turbo is weaping into the compressor housing
the engine is using any oil
is the turbo meant to be getting gallery oil pressure or should it be restricted?
cheers

The oil pressue should be the same in the oil galleys and in the turbo, it is fed top to bottom some turbo's have small paddles in the oil galley to make the oil flow most rely on pressure.

If your presure is droping that low I would 1 test oil pressure with another guage and 2 be suspect about the oil flow in the engine and turbo. I would hope dodgy sensor or wire poss earth. Hard to figure out what you are trying to describe internet mechanic I am not.
