Surf removable canopy replacement

Post by marbiol »

I'm looking for a vehicle like a surf, but I've had issues with the rear window in 4runners that I've used. Does anyone know whether I could replace the canopy (one of the removable ones) with something with an upward opening window (ie. what would be on the back of a hilux ute with a canopy)...

I can't see why not. The trick would be finding an existing one that fit, or get one custom made. I have no idea what the cost would be, but like you, I am sick of fixing the rear window system on my sons surf. Toyota would have been better off fitting a manual window mechanism like the old Holdens and Falcons. I wonder if one of those holden/ford systems could be adapted?

I have had issues with the power window back there for awhile too.
I found a relativley easy solution. As it was usually just a wiring problem I eliminated some of the relays to help pinpoint my problem when it arises next time.
The canopy bolt relay and the door lock relay i bypassed. So now next time it goes I will have far fewer places to look.
I am however looking for a new canopy (ln61) in reasonable condition preferably black if any body has one in the central north island.
