Water in diffs

Post by 4Paws »

After a trip out playing in deep water i now have water in my diffs, So my question is can i just drain the old milky diff oil out and refill it with new diff oil?
Or do I have to drain the oil out and then get rid of all the remaining water residue and ruined oil some how before i refill it?
And if so how do i clean it all up?
Any help would be much appreciated.

Take your truck for a good run and get all the oil and water mixed up and hot then drain it whiles its still hot and refill it with new oil and you should be alright

How bad was the diff oil before, do as sadam said if it was unknown or standing in the water for a while the other thing you need to look at is diff breathers and axle seals the water got in there somehow and replacing oil gets costly.

Keep an eye on it if you just do the change it can get pretty bad before you need to change it

the oil was pretty much new say about 8 weeks old, the water contamination isn't really bad but i'll change it and looking at doing the diff breathers now cause your right it will get expensive at this rate. Thanks for your help

Just drained the mucky old oil out of my diffs and looked at the breathers to find out that the front diff breather is just a 6mm hole in the top of my diff  maybe i should have checked it before i went out
