413 replacement shocks

Post by unadunted »

Gidday guys
I've just bought a 413 with 2 inch lifted springs and 1 inch body lift, running 31 inch Simex tyres. The aftermarket shocks are limiting travel (front) to 120mm. Are there any cheap replacements out there?? I'm keen to get as much travel as possible; vehicle is off-road only. I plan to also put some scissor spring hangers on to get more downward travel. :?: :?: Ta

VL commodore rears work well in the front. You do have to raise the upper mount up though. They have about 250mm travel. I cut the original mounts off and made some longer mounts from a peice of RHS with one face cut out (to make it a channel) and a top welded on. Then bolted it on to the chassis with crush tubes.

For the rear I used solid axle hilux rears leaning inwards onto t new cross member that bolts to the original upper shock mounts.

But of work but meant the springs limited travel not the shocks. From memory by doing the above flex went from about 1 whell 280 off the ground with three on to about 600. I know its not heaps of flex but not bad for a leaf sprung zuk.

Might have a few pics of the mounts somewhere I'll have a look.

Thanx for that. Found some long travel shocks out of ??? but are a bit long. Will need to lift the top mount. I know there's alternatives for the escudos and thought there might be a common replacement for the SJ's. Are there problems with fitting scissor shackles; I want as much droop as possible rather than lifting the truck to get more travel? :?:
