This is an issue I'm having with my '89 samurai.... standard carb. etc.
Runs fine normally; However, after driving at speed (~100km/h) for a while something goes wrong. It will run OK at full throttle, but at any other throttle setting it is basically dead. It will still Idle ok.
If I pull over and let it idle for a few minutes it seems to come right.
Any ideas?
Samurai Carb? problem
Re: Samurai Carb? problem
Sounds like carb icing to me, now that the weather is cooling down.
Carb icing is where the moisture in the air freezes as it goes thru the venturi. Eventually you end up with a buildup of frosty ice that blocks the jets and / or throat.
Thats why when you stop it goes away, as the heat soaks through the manifold and melts the ice.
I'm guessing you have a snorkel, or at least haven't got the factory warm air pipe that picks up air from near the exhaust. Try re-connecting that and see if it fixes it.

I agree sounds like carb icing to me. If you do have a snorkel you probally are best just to disconnect it infront of the air box. Rather than re instating the factory pipe to the exhaust manifold. It was this problem that motivated me to do an engine conversion... um well convince Ben to do an engine conversion for me

Re: Samurai Carb? problem
Cheers guys, it wasn't running with the snorkel attached, but it doesn't have the hot air intake attached either, and it was a very cold day. Might extend a hose over to behind the radiator for cold days.
