project chucky ( short for chuck norris)

Post by tracta »

recently I bought a 1978 (or 1975 ) series 3 landrover. There is some confusion as the rego sticker says 75 hardtop but I was told its 1978 and I have been unable to locate the vin plate at this point. Its stock standard, unregistered and unwarranted at the moment. It will need to be revinned if I am to get it road legal ( the missus wants me to but im not sure if its worth the work at the moment). It has a bent center crossmember which I have a replacement for and no rust in the chassis that ive been able to locate as yet. Im thinkign about doing a ground up rebuild on it to keep me occupied on the cold lonely nights during winter so its ready to play in summer. I havent doen anything like this before so should be quite interesting. :D

It has a 2.25 motor in it at the moment and a 4 speed gear box. I have been unable to start to it since I rolled it off the trailer (it does go It got driven up on to the trailer) but thats more due to a lack of a good battery I think. It has some rust in the firewalls in the normal places so will need to get it cut out.

Im thinking of a repower in this day and age of expensive (and only getting worse) petrol prices. Can anyone suggest a good grunty engine that will be relatively cheap to run ? I was thinking of a v6 holden but Im not sure how much work it would take to get one to fit ? has anyone put a late model holden into a landie recently ? any tips/ideas suggestions ?
im also looking at putting disks allround for the brakes, has anyone done this ? Is there anything I should watch out for or look for in particular ?

any other suggestions - except for sell it and buy a zuk, nissan or toyota will be listened to. (I already own a nissan and it breaks, I owned a toyota and it got stolen so now im looking at something that if it breaks I will be able to fix it, and no one is dumb enough to steal an old school landie. )

cheers

C

86Surf's selling his LD28 powered landie dirt cheap, I dont know if it actually goes or not but they seem to be good engine conversions in Landies?

haha yea right. diesel = slow. an injected 202 would make a much better conversion. I managed to squeeze a toyota v8 into my 2a

Hi, i've found some info on a disc brake conversion for a series landy, went looking once i got my landy coz i had the same thought of upgrading & i also have info on upgrading the handbrake to disc, both are complete write ups of how the person did the conversions & parts used, i'm not too sure where i've moved the files to, i've put them somewhere on my pc, its abit hard to keep up with all my stuff (got 11 partions on 4 hard drives lol & running out of room real fast) i'll find the files within the next day or two, just spent the night fixing the flatmates pc & what a mission that was. females & pc's dont mix at all  send me a pm through the forum or txt me on the no below in the sig if i havent let u know in 2 day

Cheers
