Was Bill's Easter trip, now Al and Tim's Central Trip
Hi Guys, got another trip in the planning for easter. Tim and I are planning to head down on Thursday and back Tuesday, allowing 4 days 4wdriving over easter. As accomodation is at a prenium secondary to warbirds, we have booked the Ettrick campground backpackers. There are 8 beds left up for grabs. If people want to go but don't want to stay in backpackers then you will need to make your own arrangements ASAP(can't stress that enough) There are caravans for hire also. Phone number 4466600. We will definitely be doing the Old Man Range, Old Woman Range, Serpentine( the hard way), maybe Carricktown and Whitecombe Rd up abd down, and what else we can think of. Any ideas greatly appreciated. If you want to go, you know the rules, rated tow hooks, recovery gear, could even be snow around at that time. There are some deep mudholes up the old man so a snorkel could be an advantage as well as MT's. Those two are optional. Radiator sack essential, learnt the hard way last trip. Whitecombe Rd/Old Man Range mud can kill trucks by blocking radiators.

I've just got off the phone to Ettrick accomodation is booked, at this stage there is bunks available for about 8 more people at $10 per night per person, accomodation is very good with showers, toilets, washing machine/dryer, full cooking facilities incl pots pans ect (just bring your food) we have stayed there before and it's not the ritz but its bloody good
was an old school and has been converted to accomodation kitchen etc.
numbers are strictly limited so book your place inside through here
4wding will also be premium at this time of year, if the truck makes the start line

Mike, we chose Central as it maybe the last time we can get in before they close the rds for winter. As for the westcoast, alot of clubs are going there for easter plus every other man and his dog. We will do westoast trips over winter as they are just over the hill for us here in CHCH.

Yes there is Mrs, me & 2 boys will be in one at this stage unless we don't fill the inside rooms, the inside area is seperated into 4 rooms with 2 beds in each and you should be able to put a stretcher in for a child.
There were more caravans but the owners were a little reluctant to rent them out as apple picking season will be in full swing, best you contact the camp owner yourself to find out if she'll part with one

Ok talked to the mrs and she seems keen so we are a definite with the beds.
We may only do a couple of the days of 4wding as thats prob about all she can handle but will stay there the entire time. If she cant get the time off work then it will be just me there (oh dear 4 days of 4wding

Talked to Mrs - definitley starters. Just awaiting return of call from Ettrick re Caravan (will post result); if no joy, would really appreciate one of the two-bed bunk rooms for Mrs and myself - will set up an air mattress for daughter.
Enjoyed viewing your Xmas trip pics - stunning scenery. Re the Easter trip, are the runs day, or overnighter from Ettrick?

Day trips out of Ettrick, probably about 10 hr days
. There is a pub across the road
. The communal kitchen next door has pretty damn good facilities. I'll be in a unit because of the new born, give him another few months and I'll have him in a tent like last one. Like the look of your truck going by the speil at the end of your post. The bunk room has a few doubles( that means two single beds in one room) and singles. your daughter could get a single next to your double if that makes sense, you won't get an airbed between your beds. keep in touch.

Yes I noticed that as well. You may find some of the tracks a tad not so challenging for your truck since I got through them in a stock standard surf with 29" ATs on. But saying that it sounds like we are doing some harder tracks this time around so you may get it in 4wd a couple of places

Thanks Lads. And hi Tim - yep, Leithfield = Kevin.
Finally got all the things I wanted done on the truck so that I would only have a one-off payment for certification; now all legit, and proudly displaying new WOF and Reg. It's an extremely capable vehicle, but more than anything else, I really appreciate the assurance and insurance that offers with family on board. Mrs and our three year old daughter are also hooked on 4wding, so we're all chomping at the bit for 'Al & Tims Excellent Adventure'. Have always wanted to run those trails in Central Otago ... something about the country up there. We will also be heading along to next Nth Cant 4WD Club meeting in Feb; have toy, will play

Yeh, but shit man you sure found plenty of swamps to be pulled out of
But I suppose that was Bill's fault as he was telling you where to go
As for'Bill & Tims Excellent Adventure'[/quote]Bill couldn't organise a #### in a brothel with a fist full of fifties
Sorry Bill, couldn't resist that one.
