Milemarker hydraulic winch install

Post by Jafa »

Yer I know, I should be working on my Hilux     but the opportunity to go out on one of our rare "hard yakka" trips club means I am going to install my Milemaker hyd winch into my Zook. Originally this was to be the Hilux's winch, but its nowhere near doing the job. So into the zook it goes, Oh by the way the trip is this weekend, so I'll be flat out, and doing it a little rougher than normal   Here goes.....

Bits removed.....

Image

Leaves a big hole....

Image

To be filled in with this!

Image

Here we go with the ole cardboard winch bar :)

Image

Milling the rope slot and mounting holes

Image

Thats better, real steel!!

Image

Fits quite nice, would've liked to get it lower, but the steering box is in teh way

Image

Pump will be driven off the crank, rather than a vee belt, and the radiator will be on the rear deck

Is that pump going to be enough to run the winch, it looks the same as my power steer pump?

Its what came with the winch, it aint gonna be a 300ft/min monster, specs as follows

Performance Specifications 3.5 GPM@1500 PSI
Layer of Cable - ft/min -Low Gear - (High Gear)
1 - 5.65 (31)

2 - 6.43 (36)

3 - 7.41 (42)

4 - 8.58 (48)

Well is starting to come together. Slight change of plans, was going to drive the pump off the crank, but no room, couldn't find a coupling short enough, so its gonna be driven wit a vee belt.

Made a couple of pulleys
Image

Image

mounted the winch and sorted the hydraulic lines etc
Image
Image

Whipped up a bracket and pivot etc to hold the pump
Image

Image

Image

Image

will sort this end on Sat
Image

Finally some pics of the whole zook for MrO :) Looks wrong without a rear on it
When I get my shite together and finish my tube bender, I'll tube it out in the back, make a deck and rollbar etc

Well got it all done, made it to the trip, had a ball, and the zook went without a hitch all day. Winch is really good, hauled the zook no worries, and pulled heavy cruisers and Hilux's no worries, no flat batteries, no broken shear pins or uni's, unlike the other trucks on the trip, all in all a worthwhile exercise

Sorry, but that fabrication work is nowhere NEAR rangi enough to be installed on a Suzuki bush truck. I suggest you go re-do it to a more appropriate standard! :P

Nah, nice work!

If it doesn't break, drive it harder.
