Whanga Road has a $10 per truck (voluntary) fee to help with maintenence from memory....Being an ORE Assn Trip there will be a $5 VISITOR FEE to cover non NZFWDA members insurance.

Thanks Jerry, that $10 per truck "donation" goes to the Wahnga road action group and is payable into the steel can on the counter of the pub. It is ALL use for road maintenance and the fund is broke at the moment as far as I know. cheers

We're quick all right Jerry, also quite good at stating the obvious. The road report is back for all involved's interest, the slip is not as bad as first reported and is passable with care - there IS more to come down and when it does it will land directly on the track and crush anything or anyone under it. if you must cross the slip, and I suppose you probably must if you want to get out the other end, I suggest you do it without lingering in the immediate area, keep following vehicles and vehicles already across well back and take it one at a time. Who knows what might trigger it and I have always been wary of making too much noise for that reason. Just in case I might be held liable for this advice, you travel the road, as always, at your own risk and you should assess the hazards situation for yourselves at all times.

The recent repair work has held up really well but in an area we know as "McFettridge crossing" sandbagging around the upstream entrance to the culvert has largely washed out. The water is now flowing alongside the culvert pipe instead of through it and this will mean the crossing will more than likely go with the next rain. There is an alternative route which will require hard winching and possibly will be a good exercise in using pulley blocks and cable extensions. If the better track means you cover more ground than expected on the day, I'm sure all users of the road would appreciate if you could try to do a fix on that crossing if you can spare the time and effort and the sandbags if you think to take some with you. cheers and thanks, Gordon Burnside

More the merrier, just remember the money for the donation and the basics you will need in your truck (tools, spade strops etc) You're welcome to drive up with us too.

That was pretty much my thoughts also, such as gas bottles/cookers etc.

Theres nothing wrong with leaveing the Bar (chillybin) in the back of the truck so long as its full of ice and you put cans in it not stubbies.... I've done it for as long as i can remember without any problems.... other than the time the truck decided to lie on its side and the ice fell out :?

Well here it is, Nick is offering a free feed to all of us on the Saturday night.

For all you Welly guys coming up, if you are prepared to deviate off the highway (come up the back way from Levin via Shannon & through to the Manawatu Gorge and through to Woodville----or over the Rimatuka's & up through the Wairarapa to Woodville would be best), I will fill/top up everyones diesel tank to the brim, and if you's want to bring one 20 litre jerrycan each, I will fill those as well (1 per vehicle). ................FREE!!!
