ln65 auto locker

Post by scs »

Yo,

Probaly install a lockrite into my ln65 this weekend, currently has lsd rear. Has anyone had problems in the rear in carparks etc with tyres screeching everywhere? I'm trying to decide whether to put it in the front, or swap the front and rear diff so the lsd ends up in the front and locker in rear. Having in the rear probaly better for climbing, but front gives advantage of not being affected when in 2wd/hubs unlocked... any personal experiences?

Sorry for any confusion, I know you can't fit into the LSD carrier, whihc is why it'll be fitted to the open front diff, but I believe front and rear diff heads are interchangable in the hilux, so what i eman is either leave the locked diff in the front or swap the locked diff head to the rear.

Yes the diffs are interchangable in thw solid axle models, The locker in the rear will affect carparks, open road cornering etc but it will not take long to learn how to drive it again.

Locker in the front you just have to remember it is the inside tire that is driven and the power steering will have a bit more of a fight the risk you run is that you bounce the fornt end and bust a birfield, changing to longfields (stronger axles) and you will be fine.

Having a locker in the front helps a lot more than having it in the back, but it depends on if you want to change the odd birfield, I am going LSD up front and locker in the back mainly because I have no winch so getting back out is a better option for me (but I can swap it again later)
Legal disclaimer: Any information I may have provided is worth exactly what you paid me for it.

If you fit an LSD head to the front axle you will need to remove about 5mm of the inner end of the axle shafts to stop them fouling. The inner end of the axle has a chamfer on it... just remove it back to the spline and that will be enough... don't forget to slightly re-chamfer it and clean up the spline a little afterwards.
