studs or bolts

Post by Heath »

I have to attach the exhaust manifold on my toy and there are only three studs left in the head. Can I use bolts instead of studs and what sort should I use (8.8,12.4, or whatever)

My Isuzu uses 2 studs as locators and the rest of them are bolts.
As to HT or not ... I'm not sure ... I would guess that as they are normally torqued down they would be HT
There is no mechanical problem so difficult that it cannot be solved by brute strength and ignorance.

Use studs with a brass double nut. [ extra long nut ] the brass nut won't rust to the stud.
