Anybody mated a V8 to a Nissan Drivetrain?

Post by Swamped »

Just daydreaming,
but i have a small block valiant V8 with 15000 ks on it and wanted to know if anyone has had transmission adapters made up and if there were any issues had with fitting.

Mounts and electrics etc etc I have dealt with before but are there any problems with clutches, gearing ratios??

Any information would be of interest

cheers

The biggest thing to deal with is the shape of the firewall. With a 6 in it the firewall curves around the head but with a V8 the heads are in the way so you need to either shift the engine foward 3" or the body back 3". The pedal box, brake booster etc is in the way for cutting the firewall. (but can be done if you want a big job)

Cheers for that

The engine is a small block approx 275ci as its been recond and slightly bored out. Its from a 68 VIP.
Its very short and is in our 'hotrod' van at the moment but from measurements I've made, an adapter plate might be enough to push it out of the way of the firewall, i think, given the banks aren't as big as say a 302 or a 350.

Here in Oz they fit 6.5 litre Chevy V8 diesels into them all the time no problem at all.A company call Bruswick Diesel does it here in WA.

The engine bay is plenty big enough as long as you move the motor to clear the firewall. Most of the adapter kits shift the motor foward 3" to achieve this so it appears as if the motor is sitting in the normal position. I think it is the Marks kit that actually uses a flywheel and a torque convertor so you have very high mass . Great for torque but not for revs. The easiest track may not be the best is what on I'm trying to say.
Also I have fitted a V8 into a GQ so this is from first hand experience and research. The VH45 that I've put in mine is about the same external dimesions as a BB Chev due to the quad cams extreme bracing in the bolck. Then fit a turbo to it and you have space issues. Any normal V8 will fit with ease as long as you clear the firewall somehow.
