asking for info
hi all,
havent been on here in a while, but i have been playing with a couple of ideas to do to my pajero,(well add to the list of to items).
firstly heart transplant
currently got the 2.5 d t. was thinking about changing to a 3.0l dt from a surf or simila or a 3.2 d t from a R50 terrano 96-99ish i think.what would be the easyest/best one to go for and would these fit up to my standard 5 speed gearbox as i have a spear one.
secondly beam diffs
toying with the idea of beam in front, what i want to know is, are there any beam diffs that have the pumpkin on the passenger side of truck or would i have to get one swaped round? as above would like to use factory gearbox.

Re: asking for info
just cut out the center then spin it arround and weld it back up. make sure you make up a gig so that you get it all straight

heres mine... http://www.outerlimits4x4.com/ftopic125224.php
there are dyna diffs with the pumkin on the correct side, but they are hard to find. i stuck with toyota gear as its easy to find and spares are plentiful. get a hilux diff and had it choped and the pumkin put on the other side. get it done so that you can use standare axles, that way replacemenst are cheap and if you keep breaking them and want something stronger you can get longfeilds or somthing "off the shelf". but if staying with std hilux bits you will need to do the IFS hub swap, to even out the track front to rear. not a major at all, but somthing to be aware of.

Re: asking for info
As far as swapping motors go, you'd be better off getting a 3.2 Paj one. Heaps more grunt that the other 2 mentioned, even a 2.8 would be up there with those other two.

Re: asking for info
yeah using standard parts would b a bonus.any ideas on what it cost to get the diff cut and swaped.was kinda thinking of useing leaf springs for front maybe some land cruiser ones.
as for motors i was thinkjng bout those two because have driven both 3 l surfs and own a 3.2 terrano and they seam to have bit better even power band than the 2.8 d mitiz motor. and for the fact that it would be differrent.
could you please explain the "do the IFS hub swap, to even out the track front to rear. not a major at all, but somthing to be aware of" i dont quite understand that bit.

hahha... theres more knowledge on outerlimits about SASing a paj. have followed two full threads on there about them and there have been a few smaller snipets and bits and pieces from time to time aswell. thought itd be better there incase we started heading in the wrong direction....

the track is axle width. the distance between wheel mounting surfaces on a diff is probly the best example. a standard hilux has a skinnyer track than a pajero. so putting the std hilux diff in will mean the distance between the two front wheels is smaller than the distance between the rears. so you need to widen it up. using parts off a surf (IFS parts) it will widen it out 33mm on each side bringing it closer to the pajero track width.
hope that made sence...

heres the how too... viewtopic.php?f=30&t=3543

Re: asking for info
If you like the 3.0TD toyota motor, & you want a hilux front axle, you'd really be better off just buying a KZJ71 Prado, they come with them pre-installed
. Assuming you do ALL the work yourself you'd be up for over $6K to do those mods to a Pajero.

Re: asking for info
yeah i realise that it would be more if a toyota than a mitzi, just thought of somthing bit stronger and maybe more reliable (prob ganna open a can of worms for that) what would be a better opion then?

Re: asking for info
If you are thinking Toy 1KZ then get a Toy 5-speed box behind it - then you have a bolt-together solution that will mean you can leave the toyota axle in one piece since the t/c output to the front on a toy box is on the right side... also opens a world of possibilities re: lower gearing and dual cases should you want to ...

Re: asking for info
How much longer do duals make the t-case? The rear prop shafts are already very short on a SWB Paj.
But yes, if you were chaning motors then you'd def use toy trans to make the beam axle much easier.
