Exhaust air bag jacks

Post by Swamped »

Kinda unsure where to post this but I saw a demo a few years back at the fieldays of one of these bags. It was prior to me having a truck so i never got any details but what are peoples opinions on them and if they are good where can i get one. The normal jack i have now doesn't lift high enough with the bigger tires so I'm looking for other options.

cheers

I thought of using them but the risk that it may be punctured when I need it put me off them. The Highlift is what I use and yes the truck is unstable but if you bolt a larger plate the the jack base it will be better.

I also bought the hooks that go through the rim lifting the tire directly rather than off a bullbar (if you can get to them) is a better option. Do you have chassis stands? I use the highlift with stands under axles (rocks and tyres etc) and only use the jack to lift.

I do see the potential advantages in the exhaust jack system large surface area, being able to squeeze it into a narrow space etc but really the highlift is used so rarely I think i have used it more in the garden pulling trees and old posts out than on 4wd trips.

I only have axle stands from when i had my old Subaru. Atm i don't have anything long enough to lift with so would have to resort to lifting a wheel by driving up a bank if i got a flat. I'll have a look at hi-lift jacks again though....cheers for your help

The trick with a Highlift is if you lift the sprung weight (the wheel) it is a lot more stable as you are lifting low down if you lift the body weight and unload the suspension it is then a bit more of an issue.

Nothing is perfect and a solid tree and a winch (to a tree protector over the branch) has been used where highlifts cannot be used it depends on the number of 4wd's you have with you and enviroment you are in as to the options you have available and exhaust jack may be fine as long as a mate has a Highlift, remember the most well setup truck will not go as far because of the massive weight and trailer of gear you have to pick what you carry for where you are going. Nothing is a don't go there but a highlift is also a manual winch and able to push and clamp so can have more uses.

There is no mechanical problem so difficult that it cannot be solved by brute strength and ignorance.
