Jerry
If you are wanting the electric locker you will need both the housing and the diff-head.

This price is way cheaper than a certain Toyota dismantlers prices near Chch. they were asking $1800 for the diff-head alone, 4 years ago.

I would suggest it would be better to buy the whole unit to whoever is interested as although other housings are capable of being modded, my experience in re-building the one under my KZJ-71 Prado, is that the axles (1/2 shafts) are different (larger)and the bearings and all the seals are larger than your typical Hilux rear axle

The CW & P are also different to the non-locker ones as well.

There are wiring circuits available on the net to engage the locker.

I have to say I really rate my electric locker, well worth the 1k

do you mean to say that the axle OD is different? Im looking at putting this in the back of my hilux hence why i asked for just the nugget.. I have a 4.556 4 spider LSD in the back at the moment but it doesn't cut he mustard, to change to the CW & P and install a locker is going to cost alot more than what Madaz wants for this unit.

As far as i am aware the crown wheel and pinion are just normal 4.88s so your 4.5s should fit right in, the axles are different though (I think the spline is longer on one axle from memory) but only in spline length, not diameter

To be precise, I am not sure. I suggest you do your research on the US forums.

All I know is that the outer bearing retaining rings are a different dia (smaller)
Ahh... :?:
I may have been leading you up the proverbial 4wd track.
It was a while back that I did this.

1st, my knowledge is with the KZJ axle, not the LJ axle. There may be differences.
When I think about it, the 1/2 shaft bearing diameters are the same but the Hilux bearing retaining rings are shorter and have a smaller outside diameter and the inner seals which run on these are correspondingly smaller on their ID's as well.
The wheel bearings are the same part number, that is all that factory fits between the two.
The outer seals are completely different.

I guess for you, what you will need to find out is whether the axle spline counts are the same and whether the back of the crownwheel bowl in the housing is dished enough for the wider crown wheel and meatier CW carrier.
You will need to cut the diff-head flange on the axle housing as described on other threads on here.

Hope that helps, sorry to put you off track to start with.
