Recovery Equipment needed:(in my opinion)
Each truck: winch dampners, winch extension wire/strap (could get away with one per group), shovel, first aid kit, fire extingusher, 10 mtr tow rope/strap, bow shackels, tree protector, pulley block.
Advisable to also carry tow rope joiners, 20 mtr rope (could get away with one per group).

Each group: axe, 20mtr rope, mattock, crowbar, winch extension wire/strap, snig chain, sledge hammer.

Group as a whole: chainsaws x2, heavy duty tirfor (mine, used last on this track  ).

Anything else :?:

Hi Al
I think you have it fairly well covered .
Janet will be coming with her Video camera and she doesnt mind moving around in the group but if others have a camera as well they could be merged into one video.

I was in there last year the week after that snowfall and it took the council from Reefton about 5 hours just to open the snowy road and on the chasm track all the gorse was flat on the ground as well. So probably wouldn't hurt to have an extra chainsaw.
After you took the kids back at anzac weekend, Paul and myself went right through to the chasm and back. The track is still in quite bad condition with washouts and without 35s and diff locks would be undriveable in places from that end as we didnt do hardly any work.

This track changes every time you go in so we have to be prepared for anything

Just one other reminder for anyone with a petrol motor to make sure the waterproofing is good because if the grey is around 4 feet deep it is a very serious crossing through the boulders.

Sounds good Al

For those going on the friday, there has been a slight change of plans. Smokey has managed to gain us some access to private land that has been closed off to 4wders for years. We now need to meet at Arthurs Pass at 0900 on the friday morning. Please pm Smokey for more details, this is his baby. The day could be long as we may need to trailblaze as the road has not been travelled in years. We may even need to road build.

Hi Rude, as a mate of mine once said,------ If I was local would I go,----- the answer was yes, so whats a few Kilometers, and besides, I bet those new boots aren't run in yet. You could even bring the DVD from last year over.

IT WOULD BE RUDE NOT TO COME OVER,

FITZY.

Hi Al

Sounds like you had a good time at Haast. We stayed with Flag and played at Seddonville, did another track for the first time with Mark and Steve

Just altered our booking at Ikamatua, coming down Thursday now to go on Fitzys trip on friday.
Can't resist it ,everything sounds although it is coming together nicely and will be fun. Might bring some home brew rum, over proof stuff.

Cheers Richard

Must have more than 4 X's in it.
Anyone got a bitching winch seat free. :?:
Just been made redundant, and off on expensive trip to the States with F-all money.
Can't help myself :!:
I might just have to come and help you guys play... It just looks far toooooooooo tempting!

Time to start getting everything sorted now. Have a rather large list of things to do for truck before this trip even starts.
People going and broken down into teams:
Team A:
Richard + Janet ( trip movie maker) Hilux (team leader)
Jas + Chopper Cruiser
Paul D + (not sure who) Prado
Smokey + John Cruiser

Team B
Myself + Rude (mate from Aussie) Safari (Team leader)
Rick + Shaun (Kumho rep) Surf
Bill + Mark (Rick's mechanis)+ Grant ( Mark's mate) Prado
Nathan ( Mark's mate) + 1 (not sure of name) Prado

Team C:
Tim + Rob Surf (Team Leader)
Rick (pommie)+ Nick (Works for Rick) Hilux
Mike + girlfriend (i think)+Mark Surf
Alex (cruzerboy)+ 1 (not sure who) Cruiser

Each team's leader has done the track (whole or a large part of) before. Team A has the most experienced people who have done the track before ( Richard and Paul), they also have some good raod builders in there as well. Teams now need to sort amongst themselves the equipment they will need. If there is anyone who has a beef about what team they are in PM me, don't whinge in the thread. There will be a briefing on the Friday night at Ikamatua at 2000hrs (8pm) in the bar of course. This will be for all not just drivers, it will be basically a saftey talk. If you haven't already seen pics of this trip to see what you are in for go back to my first post and click on the link.
Only 36 sleeps to go
