Terrano temp problems

Post by Armz »

I have a 92 Nissan terrano 2.7t auto, Ive noticed after driving for 20 mins or so there is a shit load of heat comming from the gearbox area, it can mainly be felt comming though the gap round the hand brake, and the bottom of the gear stick is bloody hot to.

The gearbox is running fine, and the guy i brought it off recons he spent $2700 reconditionishing the gear box which would be about 8000ks ago now.

I know heat is the biggest killer of the autoboxes, so any ideas of what to do? or is this normal nissan stuff?

put an after market trans cooler on it that way it will run a lot cooler as orignal cooler is in the bottom of the raditor so it will heat up the trans flud to running temp or in other words trans temp is only as cool as you engin temp hope this helps

I agree with what Long has said.
I would also check the rubber seals around the gear levers are in good order too as the transfer lever one tends to split and allows the heat to move up into the cabin, as well as any water too! Simply remove the console around the levers to check this out.
BNT is a good place to go for an after market cooler.
Ok people, move along. Nothing to see here. Thank you, move along.

Cheers for the advice guys.

I can understand putting in an aftermarket coolier for offroading or towing, But im wondering if there is something wrong with it thou cuz it gets real hot on just a 20min drive with nothing it in but me drivin going from Dunedin out to Mosgiel which has 2 small arse hills n the rest of its flat.

Is this normal for a terrano??

Armz i guess it is possable that the filter in the injecter pump could be blocked up bad you will find it under the power steer pump there is a 17mm bolt crack it open be careful there r 2 copper washers one on top n one under the banjo fitting move the fitting aside push in a biro u should pull out a spring push it in again and u should get a small filter about the size of your little finger nail blow it clean n reassemble n give it a shot it mite work n it mite not to
