Mod to pipe crucher

Post by Rotazuk »

Hi
i have one of those cheap pipe benders with the rollers as pipe supports . I want to make up some different guides but what sort of steel to make them out of ? Is mild steel going to be ok or will it have to be something better , like tool steel . This could be hard to machine thou . Don't what to spend to many $$$ as I am broke already but if I wasn't something soft to machine then heat treat to harden would be good .

I am leaning towards a big block of mild steel .

Cheers
Chris

Sounds animal Chris, but I have seen them made out of Hardwood with steel plates top and bottom, and bolted right through to stop the form from splitting. Would be cheap to spin up on the lathe, and could be worth the effort to see if it works
Ugly is a state of mind..... and the state of my truck!
