removing front rduis arm bolt and that part of arm

Post by meatc »

Ok I'm building a toy as described in my signiture (trail truck only, built with trials in mind but not specifically for that). I have a flex issue (bit long winded)

i have the engine in and suspension together minus shocks. I flexed it up last night and found that a well under 1000kg buggy cannot flex the bushes inthe rover arms (poosibly to do with the 1000+kg weight difference :? .)

Took front bolt out of drivers side and got the flex I was after. Without body, cage etc got just over 700mm under wheel that was in the air. :D

The Problem - removing the bolt ony works in one direction as radius arm hits axle tube. Cant take both front bolts out.

Solutions - Flag the flex and save the pennies for lockers (may take about 2 years the way things are)
Cut the radius arm on one side so only has one bolt. (prefered option)

Question - Are there any issuse with my prefered option on an off road only truck? Is the single side likely to be strong enough to withstand the torsional forces?

I have looked at wristed radius arms but feel that my option would prevent the rearward moved associated with them.

Any thoughts?? (dont ask for pics camera packed a S*(T and wont be getting new one for a week or so thanks to flybuys)
Toy - Zuk chassis tub, hilux 4.88 axles and transfer, Nissan CA18DE motor and auto trans, sc12 supercharger, 32 10'5 simex, twin motor 8274 custom freespool. Well the parts are all there in various corners of the shed

cut the front section of the arm in front of the rear bush this will allow the arm to move more freely. do this on the long side of the axle. the short side will stop the diff from tourque rotating and hold it in the correct alignment. whilst the long side is able to move a lot easier.

another quick point is make sure you are using rubber bushes not neopreme as rubber is a lot softer

cheers and good luck :D

ps photos would be good

I cut the passeger side on off. Flex went from about 40mm at chassis rail to about 120mm.

Flex is looking like about one wheel 750mm off ground with springs captive and not quite bottoming on front bumb stop. :D Travel at shock locations is about 240mm each corner on vertical travel.
