Would probably go well with the Eagle 24L Air Compressor advertised in the latest Bunnings catalog. I presume you can remove the motor/compressor part from the top of the tank and take the feed off the Sanden Air Compressor. Only $99 accoring to the latest flyer.

That is pretty darn cheap at $99.00
Might have to check these out see if we have space somewhere under the Land Rover for this 24 litre tank.
Would just be a simple matter of removing and turfing the direct drive motor and compressor and plumbing the a/c compressor into the tank. Landie's like mine come standard with a Sanden 709 compressor (7 cylinder, 9 cubic inch displacement)
However, does anyone know if the 240 volt ac pressure switch/regulator will work on 12-14 volt dc?

that ac pump has been on there a while .hes wants good dollars (i think ) 3-400 from memory .i bought two from a wrecker for $50 the pair

I think you will find it is only rated at 240V, wont matter what lower voltage it is switching as its the pressure sensor that operates the switch.

I bought a brand spanking 44ltr tank for $110 from smiths city, its 1 of those portable air tanks but does the same job, might pay to check it out.

Yep, those portable airtanks may be better. Some further reading (i.e. reading the Bunnings ad a second time) reveals that the tank on these cheapie compressors is cast iron.
May not be the best idea to mount this under the vehicle where it may get slammed onto a rock or similar.

How much air do you get in a portable tank (ie how many tyres will it reinflate, 31x10.5x15 from 4psi to 35psi) Im looking at a Powerbuilt one, they have two sizes 5 gallon and 11 gallon. My only concerns is as they fill to 150psi max they may not have enough air....

we have 1 of the 5 gallon ones at work and to be honest its as useless as tits on a bull. About all it gets used for is an air gun to dust something off, even then it runs out real quick and it hardly ever gets used. The 11 gallon 1 that I have would be better but I think you'd be lucky to pump up tyres with it

I never planned on using it for a portable tank tho, just gonna use it as my tank for onboard air.

It sure will ... the air controls the switch, no coils just a pair of closing contacts.
The other advantage is that it unloads the compressor as it switches off so the compressor starts without a load.

Almost but not quite. What it says is that the cylinder is cast iron. I assume that they mean the pump cylinder, not the storage tank. That is the way I read it any way.

Yea i'm pretty sure most compressors have cast iron cylinders, and id imagine there wouldn't be many tanks made of cast iron, they'd weigh a ton

Correct, it is the cylinder head, some cast iron and some cast aluminium.
You wouldn't get a pressurised cast iron cylinder.
