Surf vs Hilux diffs and Surf for sale

Post by Zeke007 »

Hey there,

This may (or may not be) a dumb question but...

Will a LSD out of a 91 Surf go into a 93 Hilux? By that I mean - could I just swap the diff heads over - or would I have to swap the entire diff?

Any help would be much appreciated.

Also - I have a 91 Surf 3 door auto (2.4 TD) with 143 or so k's which is basically original apart from some aftermarket adjustable shocks and LSD (maybe ;-) which I'm planning to put up for sale next week - can anyone let me know what price I should be asking for?

It's been a great truck for me, but I've gone to a hilux as I'm sick of putting the dog (and associated dog hair) in the Surf. The truck is in overall good condition (tidy body and interior etc) however the sunroof won't open eletronically (have heard that's a common occueance with stripping the gears or something) and the 2 doors have rust on the bottom of them. Funnily enough - the rest of the body is rust free and mint....? Although I have heard the 3 door surfs are prone for going rusty on the doors as well - something about easily blocked drain holes or something like that.

Cheers!

diff heads are interchangeable, you just need to be sure the ratios are the same between the two difffs and use the correct LSD grade oil when re filling.

Great - Thanks for that.

I didn't realise the type of LSD oil would make a difference depending on what Ratio's you are running. So next question (you can probably guess where I'm going with this one..)
How do I tell which ratio the diff is? Are they standard depending on the model and year of the Surf/Hilux?
