Does the std headlights have relays fitted or do they just run puny wires directly from the switch to the lights?
Where can I get replacement battery leads without spending a fortune? Mine have high resistance in them at the moment (corroded and some strands broken) so may be causing some problems with battery charging.
Finally does the std alternator have a direct link between the out put and the battery? Mine has a wire floating in the engine bay that isnt attached to anything but the alternator and would reach the + battery side perfectly.

The headlight relays are in the fuse box in the engine bay I think. I'd be surprised if any car rand the headlight current through the stalk on the steering column. If they aren't there then check the driver kick panel as there are some relays there too.

Any decent auto sparky should either have them hanging on his wall or be axle to make some very quickly... auto parts shops are pricey for these sorts of things... or go wreckers yard shopping...

Yes... this is the link that charges the battery. Its the big wire on its own attached via a stud on the back of the alternator.
Hope that helps

Thanks Steve,
Will hook the loose wire up and have a look what it does to the power levels.
As for the cables I think I will get some made up. That way they are the right length etc.
As for the relays I will have a look around and might just do the whole lot again from decent sized cable and new relays.
