Throw it away and but an electric one on. save dragging all that mud a nd crap through the rad and into the engine ba all the time, you can put a switch in to turn it off for bogs etc.
Toy - Zuk chassis tub, hilux 4.88 axles and transfer, Nissan CA18DE motor and auto trans, sc12 supercharger, 32 10'5 simex, twin motor 8274 custom freespool. Well the parts are all there in various corners of the shed
With electric don't you have to turn them off going thru water?, and if some dumbass ie me forgets to turn them off does this kill them? (its hard enough remembering which is the pointy end of the truck let alone remembering the foil for the veges or switching the fan off or on)

You can set them up to run off a temp switch just like a factory fan. I had the one on my zuk before the rebuild that has a 3 position switch, auto (off temp switch in the rad lines) on (perm running) and off (fan wont go at all) Usually ran it on the auto switch and only turned it off for a big short water crossing that wouldn't result in overheating things.
When shopping for a temp switch find out what the open and close temps are for the thermostat and get a switch that is a couple of degrees higher so the thermostat opens first. You can get adapters now to allow the placement of the switch into the lower radiator hose. Bit of wire and a relay and away you go.

i don't recomend electric fans on diesels, especialy 4x4. electric fans simply cannot match the airflow of a mechanical. thats usually not a big problem while at speed but at low speed mechanical fans do better than electric.
