Changed tfr box oil over w/e. Oil level was high (fair bit came out fill hole) and oil had the reddy-tinge of auto trans fluid and was very fluid (low viscosity). Anyone now how arsey these seals will be to replace? (KZJ78 Prado w/ auto (A343F) tranny)

Re: Prado tranny/tfr box seals?
The correct way is to remove the complete transfer box, the seal goes in from the front side of the front case. there is a chamfer in the caseing to allow the seal to go in without cutting the seal.
If you fit the seal from the rear side, the caseing has a sharp edge that can damage the seal. make a seal pusher so the seal gets
inserted with an even pressure right round the seal.
I cut a piece of tube the length of the output shaft, and used the shaft nut to push the seal in nice and square.

Re: Prado tranny/tfr box seals?
thanks Oldblue, is there a seal on the rear of the auto or just the one on the front of the tfr box?

There is a two way liped seal which fits in the front of the transfer case, but it can be replaced from the inside, use a seal driver , not a hammer to insert the seal.
