For a retro turbo upgrage.
Hi mumud, the reason I asked this Q was I recently read a reveiw in the Aus4x4 mag.The dude did the turbo upgrade but wanted no increase in full consumption.Anyways, turns out, that he went the boost compensator route only. The BC was tweaked to give him another 11% power increase over the turbo only option.Smoke emissions at start up/low revs almost disappeared. And got a slight improvement in fuel economy. The boys at the workshop couuld have given him more power. But get this. The BC cost around $1400 and a intercooler option can cost anything upto and over $3000.Around half the price for similar improvement, without additional engine room clutter.Still you can`t always belive what you read.

I did my hole boost set-up, guage and everything for under $100, the intercooler which came off a bighorn, so was a pretty much bolt on was under $300, start to stop, not including time though, but even an incabin boy racer boost controller is only like $300-400??????
Not 100% sure of terminology but here goes.
a boost controller varies the amount of boost (PSI) before the waste gate opens.
A boost compensator varies the amount of fuel the pump puts out based on the amount of boost (PSI) pressure.
I could also be talking through a hole in my A%% but thats how I think it works.
A more tech savvy person will confirm my intelegence / ignorance no doubt.

Sorry, no idea I just read the article as well and dont really know what the dohicky does or how it does it other than the basics. But if I were to guess (horsepower aint cheap) and if it is a slow moving item then I would expect it to be expensive.
