3.5 v8 not firing

1990 disco 3.5 v8 hard to start and when it does its back fireing and not runing on all cylinders i have replaced plugs leads and rotor and distributer cap.it has a short exhaust with one muffler and throws the odd flame out .where should i look now .hope some one can help.

Sounds like a timing could be out? Are the spark plug leads in the right firing order?Just other couple of ideas to check 8)

Efi or carbs? If it's Efi then they are very prone to over fuelling causing almost instant flooding. If it won't fire first time then forget it or pull and clean the plugs. Check coil connections and coil to make sure you have a good big spark - pull the king lead at the dizzy and crank it to check spark.

If it is over fuelling the temp sender at the rear of the inlet manifold is probably stuffed or the airflow meter. Last and most expensive it could be the ECU.

If she's on carbs then still look at coil first. Rover V8's need as much spark as you can get into them.
