And i see that you're the only Nissan brave enough to make the trip

PR chickened out by saying he was moving to Oz, but his Mrs won't let him now. He may yet get the balls up to do it. Other Nissan drivers I asked who have done the track before aren't in the country so you are stuck with me. Anyway I always wanted a nissan as wide as a hilux

Everyone is talking about the damage that is going to happen on this trip.

I would like open up a challenge .

A couple of years ago I took Chris Beard in from the Grey end up the hill to the washout and out again.
He had a long Wheelbase high top Nissan y60 Safari and DIDN'T GET ONE DENT.

So thats the challenge to equal Chris.

Im sure that I will probably be the winner, because I dont have a single straight panel and I will be able to blame it on a previous trip somewhere because no one would be able to prove otherwise

Cheers Richard

Hi to Teams A, B, & C, Its all on for Friday the 18th. The Canterbury contingent will meet at Sheffield Bakery ( left hand side just as you enter the township ) for breakfast,( they have the best Pies out ) at 0800hrs, we will then top up with fuel at Springfield, stop at Arthur's Pass so Bill can pass his three mugs of coffee 0900hrs and meet up with Richard and anyone else who wants to meet us at Jackson's Pub, That's if Richard is coming through Moana,( If not I will let him know where to meet us ) at 0945 hrs. I would like everyone to be aired down and morning tea over ready to start the track by 1000hrs.
Please post here If you are doing the Friday Trip, I have to let the farmer know how many vehicles.

Anyone follow NZ's moon man who does rather uncanny weather predictions based on the cycles of the moon??? He is very accurate in his predictions of drought, snow frosts etc. He has predicted a heavy snowfall for the week we are going over. It may change our plans for friday so we will have to keep an eye on it all. Thise that have snow chains, bring them, you may very well need them.

Question for Al really, any idea on distances between the fuel stops for smokeys excursion? Just wondering if I need extra? Also want to run in convoy?

Ask Smokey Bro. I'll be ong to Springfield via Sth Eyre Rd, quicker for me and you to probably. Leaving time weather dependent I think.

Damn-it! Just realised the dates of this trip. I will still be in the UK working on 27 litre V12 aero engines to be put in vintage race cars when your trip is on. Bugger it Al, why is your birthday not a few weeks later!

Have an adventurous trip and Keep safe but challenge yourselves too. None of that Gen Y namby pamby stuff ya here!

Only 3 weekends or 26 day's to go ,so to members of the A team this is the Gear I have.

16 metres of 9mm wire rope
30 metres of 24mm poly rope
2 pulley blocks
chainsaw
axe
slasher
spade
pick
crowbar
A number of D shackles
Tree protector
7 metres 24mm nylon rope
As a team really need just one more chainsaw and 1 more crowbar plus the normal stuff you carry. Apart from that we dont need anything special unless you can think of something I have missed

Can't wait Richard

Heard on the grapevine Richard that the part on the other side of the Grey that you cleared on ANZAC weekend may have all washed away again, Damn  more road buliding, what a shame.

Suppose then I should post what I'm bringing:

2m rope
10m rope
20m winch extension (depending on space as Al's bringing his)
30m rope on winch
D Shackles
Ladder Chains
Shovel
Axe
Chainsaw
Fuel and Bar Oil for above
Tree Protector
Short crowbar if needed
Handheld PRS x 3 (just need batteries)

Although Al pretty much knows what I've got.

Hi Al
I dont think it will be a problem for us.
Most people view mole hills as mountains. :? Kerry told us last time it would take 10 people 4 hours to open the track and we did it with 3 people in half an hour.
Paul and myself left it real rough just doing enough to get through with a modified trucks.

If we have to drop in the creek on the corner where we removed that tree there may be big boulders to move and therefore the need for the crowbars.

With the 3 teams we have it won't be a problem :D

Cheers Richard
