bridle path

ok i was up at the gondela the other day on a break down and seen a couple of 4wds going up the bridle path is it open to the public 4wds now or did they just go up anyway just couse theres no gate :?:

In theory the bridle path is a legal road - however - you have t be a total f#$k head to drive it and encourage the CCC to close it off. :x

thats what i thort after the ccc spent f**ken heaps puting draneg in to have it all wrecked

i drove up it a couple of years ago not to bad, steep in a few places with a two wheel drive ute just a bouns when i worked for the ccc :D

I think its a paper road & as such cant be gated

road has different status either side of the summit, 'cos of the old council structure with Lyttelton and Christchurch. I believe the Lyttelton side is not a road and there are plans to remove the road status on the Chch side for heritage reasons. I drove it for work ~12mths ago, but we obtained approval from the Park Rangers prior.

Roads status doesn't depend upon local councils - they are covered by the local Bodies Act that councils have to comply with.
