Another option would be to put a terrano LSD rear in the front of your safari, they bolt straight in apparantly

Are these the same ones as being advertised on TM?
Re: price on arb gear
Have you noticed with ARB they never advertise there prices online...im guessing thats to stop competition seeing how over prived there gear is.....as nobody does advertise there price im guessing its a part of the dealership contract....i wonder if it legal to do that ?...surely its anti-competitive.

They have recomended retail prices, from memory air lockers were about $1540 plus GST and large compressors about $5xx plus GST. I dont think too many people pay full retail and it depends who you are and who you know as to what discount you'll receive from the dealer.

So they have RRP that ARB tel them to use...well sounds like price fixing to me.....& they dont have there prices on the net.
Re: price on arb gear
I found that when pricing a winch bar and shocks, Peter Munro was $45per shock, and over $300 for the bar cheaper than G Guy Motors

I reckon it's better to pay a little extra for a locker kit from ARB that you know won't let you down [ mind you i surpose someone has to try out new products...lol.. ]
I have also found Peter Munro Ch Ch really great to deal with and he does do club discounts
VX Cruiser tray Back,3"lift, OME all round,33"maxxis [ soon to be 35"maxxis ] front and rear factory lockers, winch and bar work, etc, etc

I guess its over to the dealers what margin they put on the goods they sell like everything else in the commercial world and whether they want to list prices on a website or not is their discresion the same as everyone else?
I dont see how theres any price fixing, thats when you have a number of suppliers holding a monopoly and fixing a price between them?

Call Auckland 4x4 and price up, say, a snorkle ..... then call Waikato 4x4 and ask for the same item..... then youll find out why they dont advertise their prices.

With the first letter in RRP being "recommended" and the others being "retail price", individual dealers do have some space to move around. Because of this you cannot call it price fixing. Otherwise all the gas companies would be in the same category too (and a lot of other similar businesses).
You can check the net (US websites) for all prices for any gear that you like. I must say that I have been very happy with the service and price discounting given to me by Auckland 4x4.

As long as you are comparing the same brands, i.e. Safari snorkels for the same make and model of vehicle.
There are cheaper items out there but these can be a poorer quality and not fit as well. I priced a snorkel and Safari was $800 where as some one was selling snorkels on trade me for $325.00 . Price might be cheaper but it wasn't a Safari brand and I know with the vehicle in question there were some design changes that year and the cheaper one wouldn't guarantee it would fit.

Ralphie, perhaps I ought not to have been so subtle. i'm not bery good at subtle.
Considering Auckland 4x4 and Waikato 4x4 are both franchises of the same outfit, both are selling safari snorkles and nothing else.
Auckland 4x4 quoted me $713.00 PLUS gst
Waikato 4x4 quoted me $550.00 inclusive of GST.
Conversations were held within minutes of each other, and the same vehicle/year/model was used.
Dont have ot be an einstein to figure which I was going to deal with.
Several years ago I attended the Whangarei leg of the 4x4 national series and got to speaking to the dude with the ARB stand there. We discussed prices for the winch bar for the Cherokee. When i told him where I was located he informed me that I should go to the local delaership, as they would be the same price and that they didnt take kindly to stepping onto each others territory. The price he gave me differed from the price I got from Tauranga diesel, which was different from Auckland 4x4 and that too was different from Waikato 4x4. And yes, apples were being compared with apples.
All Im saying Ralphie, is "Shop Around" and dont necessarily believe that the nearest is the cheapest.

That seems to be a of a huge difference i suspect you were maybe mis-quoted, at $550 inclusive you should've bought it, EVEN IF YOU DIDNT NEED IT!!! lol

Re: price on arb gear
I just bought an ARB locker for my BJ74 and got it for 769 us plus 225 freight total $1275 landed NZD best price I got locally was $1550+ gst so saved $460 so shop around and if you can wait buy off a large us co as they get way better pricing than NZ and Australia. If the price was within a couple of hundy I would have bought local but I could not justify spending nearly 500 more to "support" a kiwi company....

If you follow me in the bush you must be mad cause I'm plain CRAZY !!!

I asked Steve to recheck the price, while i was standing in front of him... $550 was no mis-quote, in fact he told me their usual price was $550 plus, and he'd do it for me at $550.00 inclusive. I walked out of the shop with it (I had only gone in to get a winch plate measured!)

Yeah I think thats about what I paid for my safari snork, it was 5 years ago so the memorys been attacked by a lot of Tui cans since then but I think I paid just over $500 for it?
Like most things you buy everybody has different prices and you shop around and buy the best deal you can find, but businesses have to make money or they go broke and go out of business..... and usually leaveing a bunch of creditors out of pocket and sometimes haveing the chain effect of colapseing the creditors businesses as well and leaveing even more people out of pocket. I keep my business afloat by makeing sure it stays profitable, I charge market rates that are created by the rest of the industry I'm in and I dont bother mucking around with anything that isnt going to be profitable..... theres no sence in it, if your not going to make money why bother doing it?
