Winch Cover - Where to purchase?

Post by Swaney »

Heya,

Finally got my Chinese winch on the truck (86 pajero). As it has no air bags and was first reg'd in NZ after 2003 it doesnt need to comply with too much from what I have been told.

However as the fairlead is mounted in front of the bumper face it now needs a ‘pedestrian-friendly’ shroud. Spoke to a low volume cert place who also said it also needed to be 'padded with some shock reducing material". I figure some polystyrene cut out and a canvas winch cover should do the job.

Any idea where I can get a canvas winch shroud though?

Have seen quite a few old toyotas with the winch bags on the front - where do they get them?

Here is the pic. Would of taken a couple more but only just home from work and batteries died on camera.

Mounted by making brackets that bolt on to chassis rail and then winch / fairlead bolt to L plate that fits in the brackets - was sorted by a mate who works at an engineering company (all steel came as off cuts from there :D) - they do a lot of big construction work hence the 10mm structural steel plate. We cut the bumper around the "winch plate" - she make a beast of a ram raid vehicle now!

Put winch control box in engine bay and wired directly to the battery with a isolator switch. Put the winch remote control through in to the cabin glovebox.

Was thinking that if the fairlead had to be behind the bumper then id simply re-do but mounted 5cm back.

Hmm me thinks some one is being picky ...
Three mates of mine all got the Chinese winches and two of them are setup very much like yours ...
The third one sticks out even more ...
They are all set up with the roller fairlead on the front as you have done.
They go to two different WOF places and have not had any problems.

I guess this doesn't help much
There is no mechanical problem so difficult that it cannot be solved by brute strength and ignorance.
