Re: 2.8 rugger/rocky pto winch need help
What parts do you have? My pto winch is a factory Daihatsu PTO, for the Rugger.
A crucial factor when you put this unit on is that you MUST protect the PTO box itself, off the gearbox, as they hang down alot, and can get smashed easily.
The factory winch frame it comes on is also huge, so I got mine cut down and therefore mounted it as close into the front of the truck as possible.
Dick.

Re: 2.8 rugger/rocky pto winch need help
Here are some pics.
The way i use my pto, is i put my transfer case into neutral, then engage the pto box (by pulling pto lever). Then i select a gear, normally 1st or 2nd, then let clutch out and away i go. Obviously, i have hooked the winch cable up to something, and engaged the winch itself on the winch unit.
Sometimes i winch with the transfercase in low. This means the wheels turn as well as the winch. However, i dont do this to often, as sometimes it can make the track worse for others that come after me.
This is the winch setup on my Rugger.

PTO SHAFT that runs winch

Lever to pull to engage pto box

PTO Box itself

PTO box and skid plate protecting pto box

Bracket which cable to engage pto box is attached to

Front of PTO box

PTO shaft support bolted to bellhousing (as a support) - this is greaseable
Another Daihatsu winch i have for spare

PTO Box spare

Hopefully this can give you more of an insite as to how the winch is setup.

The winch is set back as far as possible, without doing any major modification of the chassis etc. I did drill out the hole which the pto shaft goes through, in the front crossmember of the chassis, just so i could get the winch back as far as possible. It didn't need much drilling however.

You mean this piece:

This piece unengages the winch to freespool so you can pull cable out easily, without having to winch it out, and also this piece engages the winch as locked so you can winch with it.
Sorry mate, but factory winch parts are extremely hard to come by so im not selling mine. The auction you brought it off said it was a complete unit, so why is it missing parts?

Re: 2.8 rugger/rocky pto winch need help
Found a pic of the original winch bar

might have some more of the bar removed as well....I'll have a looksie
blizzards might have the missing parts as they are similar vehicles

I think it would be easier to try and find the missing part rather than make it....The housing that the lever works within is cast i think, but the lever itself is steel.

Re: 2.8 rugger/rocky pto winch need help
thats the same as the bar ive got at the mo, after having a good look at the winch today in the day light its just the lever that i need i have the housing and locking bit guessing the guys broken and lost the lever he didnt no much about the thing really. could i perhaps borrow the lever off yours for a couple of weeks so that a mate who's a machinist could copy it transport all at my cost of coarse.

Is the base of the lever there? What about the tounge bit, which moves the engage / disengage thing on the shaft back in forth, by the drum?
