Don't worry bout my truck any more the Mrs has rounded off every corner now, too bloody big and with blacked out windows she keeps bumping into things.

Shoulda got a tank or a old L Cruiser (much the same thing)

Oh well

Odlins road, don't even know where it is, only been to a few places round Wgtn.

is on the road between upper hutt and waikanae, you turn off at the summit, be careful though, there was a lethal accident up there a few months ago when a member from our club rolled back down the track and over the slip they just went over

He was driving along one of the tracks up above the river, he went round a slip and for some unknown reason rolled back towards the slip he just passed, rear right wheel dropped in, balanced there for a sec then went over backwards. He fell approx 100 feet and ended upside down in the river bed. He had a full roll cage but buy the time help got all the way in there he had died.

Alot of the tracks down past the green hut arent really suitable for lwb or wide wagons (safari), the drop offs are just to high to risk it. The side tracks on the way are good fun though.

Thats Ben's brother who does that (never met him), Mike that was all that soil we saw and wonder what it was for. Ben is more into drifting, he's looking at turning that air strip into a Jap style drift track. Meant to go fishing this weekend, depending on weather, if not mite go for a play out that way and have a dive. Mike you around this weekend, if so I will give you a call if we go out.

If I had a really good day tomorrow I would get this pully off, change the seal, put the radiator back in, mount the new aftermarket trans cooler, plumb it back up, fit the face back on the front of the surf, change the oil and then Id be sweet for a mish sunday but at the pace I'll be going with a recently twisted ankle I dont think it will happen.

Removed the rear tray off the LR and then cut a bit off the chassis so I could formulate a plan to attach the rear cross member. Discovered I need to move a bulkhead mount back 15mm after putting the rear tub back and aligning all the doors and front bulkhead :evil:

luckily I only tack welded everything on a year ago

Removed the bulkhead, guards and front. Back to a rolling chassis ready for the final welding this week. Going to organise gas bottles tomorrow to so I can fire the old gas axe up :twisted:

Gas axes make engineering fun and speed things up.

Chassis cutting made easy with a drop saw.

rear tub mounts and bulkhead mounts. Gas tanks need to be slotted in between them.

Also discovered one of the bulkhead stabalisers I made a year ago was around the wrong way for bolting up :roll:

never mind, simple slice and dice with the cut off disc and weld it up on the other side

Should be updates every day from now I think as I only have 8 weeks to get it going for the Loburn 4x4 trial :shock:

Re-cut the rear of the chassis to the point where it will be butted with the rear cross member from the 1973 chassis (still really good condition).

Cut off the unecessary body outriggers for the discovery chassis in preperation for fuel tank mounts.

God I love gas cutting :wink:

what else can i cut off :twisted:

Yeah I did ask for that, infact everytime i mention to anyone that I have a gas set pretty much first thing to come out of their mouth is IFS........

Anyway the reason I never have to chop the IFS out is because I'm doing work on the KR.

Tonight:
Front mounts welded up. (first time welding in a year. bit of a rough start but good enough for me (my uphand or overhead never looks nice anyway)

Welded up and braced the bulkhead outriggers.

still got lots of gas cutting shit to clean up.

Got the rear cross member back from the sandblasters and thought Id chuck a whole lot of new weld in there as the welds from 1973 arnt looking that flash.

Tomorrow I'll lift the transmission and weld the fish plates on to the centre join in the chassis and hopefully get onto the rear tub outriggers. Quite a bit of fabricating supports for those. Sunday rear cross member

I thought the picture of the monitor next to the welding was a bit out of place, that doesnâ€™t look like a wireless set up to me

Nah just an old monitor lying around in the way in the shed. I think its about 15 years old actually and still goes :shock:

Anyway some more updates.

Welded up the plates on the chassis, hope the certifiers approve what I have done as I spent a lot of time welding and would really hate to even have to do a bit of it again. Seems my welding wasnt so good lying on one side and then ok on the other :evil:

Also plated up the joins in the chassis and nearly finished fabbing up the gussets for the front tub outriggers.

Tomorrow hopefully just hopefully ill get that rear cross member up and in place. Not sure if ill get it fully welded or not. Got to replace the CV in the surf and do the pads in the starlet.

Finished up the front tub cross member supports. cleaned up the rear cross member cut and then cut the 73 chassis rear end to the correct length and angle to meet the disco chassis. since the body has been lifted and the difference in the heights from the different vehicles rear ends, there is about a 10mm offset when butting up. To make the rear cross member completely flat(when looking from behind)at the very rear of the car the offset would be about 40mm but I can live with a slight angle on the rear cross member(was either that or fab up a completely new rear member). Youll see it in the pics when I post them up later in the week.

Just have a shit load of grinding of welds and gas cut residue to get the flsh plates to sit nice before welding those up(hopefully before I goto bed tomorrow night) and when that is done then the Body is completely mounted and chassis all done. Exciting times

Oh forgot to mention set the garage on fire while gas cutting away, lucky my dad was helping at that stage.
