Tweaking the fuel pump on a TD42

Has anyone tweaked the fuel pump on their TD42 to gain more power
Turbo and V8 outa the question at the mo so next best would be throw more diesel down it??

Thoughts anyone??

Not much point giving it more fuel if you aren't putting more air in. If it has been tuned so the fuel is being metered correctly and the pump has been timed correctly, that is as much power as you can get.

If you don't mind a huge amount of smoke then you can get a very slight improvement in power with the downside being higher egt's, more fuel used etc. The downside's don't justify the small gain!
As was said above, a timed and tuned pump is about all you can do unless you get more (or colder) air.
A good snorkel will help, as will good air cleaner. 2.5" exhuaust helps.

I have a snorkle, K&N filter, Pacemaker headers and a 2.5in Exhaust..

Maybe its time to get the pump tuned as its never been done...

Are they a mechanical pump? If so then you can't really tweake it as such, if its electric pump then you can. If it is mechanical you can find the IAT sensor (intake air temprature) follow it back to your ecu and put a resistor in the wire the ecu will then think it is cold and deliver more fuel

you certainly can tweak the mechanical pumps but there is very little point to it as mentioned above.

however they do respond well to advancing the injection timeing. just be aware its possible its already has been done and advancing any more is a backwould step. only downside is for some resaon they seam to have a run on issue especaiyl with lots of advance (leaky shutoff valve).

i'm sure one of the nissan gods wil give the exact details.

I stand corrected didn't know you could tweak a mechanical fuel pump

Recently I put in a new fuel filter but primed it with workshop grade injector cleaner and ran this through the injectors on the intial start up. I then played with both the fuel flow and idle speed so that it now idles at 750RPM. I changed air filters and run a pre filter as well. My objective was to reduce smoke which it has done well but it has also increased the power a little, I believe from the injector cleaner.

Also getting the injectors done can make huge difference is they are old, as they probably are.

If you want more power, get a turbo.

Ditch the K$N if you want your engine to last.
