Air Leak

Post by kiwipete »

I seem to have an air leak somewhere in my system. It escapes over night.
This is on my on-board air system. I have plumbing from front to rear and a 6ltank.
I have tried all the usual tricks like using soapy water on all connections, but I still cant find the leak.
I did think of putting some dye in the tank with water then pressurising it, but I don't want dye all over the show, especially my drive.
The real issue is that I am manually filling the system at present cos I have yet to install my Sanden AC pump.

What suggestions do you all haveon solving this leak?
Ok people, move along. Nothing to see here. Thank you, move along.

What did you use as a thread sealer, I had slow leaks with my joints till I used some loctite 567 thread sealant?

Thread tape, because I want to alter it sometime in the near future. Strange seeing as how it has held up nicely for the past 4-6 months.
Thread tape hasn't been affected on my workshop compressor or fittings in the garage at all and I have had that for 3+ years.

And it seems odd that the old trick of the soapy water did not produce any bubbles too. :?

Yeah the leakings probably a bit slow to pick up with soapy water.

Go and shout yourself a $40 tube of that loctite thread sealer

If the 40 bucks is a bit too hard to let go of theres probably lots of other thread pastes you could use?

if there is no external leak then the non return valve is the likely culprit

make sure you have heaps of detergent in the soapy water. Too little and small leaks don't bubble, as it tends to run off to quickly.

Yep, did that too thanks.

Still thinking of putting some sort of dye in the tank and pressurising the airlines to spot the leak, but I need some sort of dye that's not going to stain.
Suggestions anyone please ?

Yep, checked all the connections with the soapy water.
I fill it by plugging it into an external air compressor at home or work.
I just havent gotten around to making any brackets to mount my Sanden AC pump yet.
Too lazy i spose.

Yes but how do you connect the compressor at home to the tank?

If it is like this one

Then they are a bit prone to leaking.....

Yep yep, it is the same type of connection that I use.
I would still have thought that the soapy water would have picked up a leak in it too all the same, thanks.

Still looks like a dye is the answer tho.

you could go to an aircon place they use a fluro dye to trace leaks pressureise the tank with than and you can only see the dye with a black light, not sure what they would charge you for the dye tho.
