A Question For Electrical Gurus
A Question For Electrical Gurus
May be a dumb question but on my Safari a couple of times after being parked up for a while same old nissan problem the battery on passengers side is flat ,after checking with a meter the drivers side is still fully charged ,My question is this what would happen if i was to put a set of jumper leads between them would this allow me to jump start myself? ...Just a thought..Cheers
Re: A Question For Electrical Gurus
not sure on the jump idea but its the memory on your radio 's draining that battery as its the one that also supplys the as youve found the starter system

Re: A Question For Electrical Gurus
is it a 12V one or a 24v one? if its 12v i dont think it would be a problem to jump the other one, you could even just swap the batteries to be safe . but if its 24v it most likely wont work. If your not sure if its 12v or 24v look at how the batteries are connected, and whether they're in parallel or series

Re: A Question For Electrical Gurus
Have you been to an auto electrician to get the battery tested? It may be on its way out.
Ok people, move along. Nothing to see here. Thank you, move along.

Got a similar problem, started last week. The radio is not hooked up to one battery as coxy has said, it is run through a 12v converter in the passenger footwell. My alternator is not showing any lights when the key is first turned as well. I have tried in vain to isolate the voltage drain with no success, so it off to the Master Rick at 4wd acc to fix. just got to bite the bullet really. Got a feeling I will be up for x2 new batteries and x1 new alternator. Not much change out of $800.

Re: A Question For Electrical Gurus
Think we sorted it ,As coxy said the memory on radio and the even charger....
Re: A Question For Electrical Gurus
yes i drain that left battery flat 3 times now , it hates sitting , so i take the battery lead off if not using it for awhile . Have to reset the radio' s but thats a small thing , rather that than boost start it every time

Re: A Question For Electrical Gurus
been having this problem for 4 mths now1st time was coming back from coast drove all the way home unloaded the truck went to park it in the garage and it was flat??? engine was still hot from the drive home, put 2 new batterys on and they where flat 2wks later,
went to the auto sparks on idle was charging at 26volts with nothing on,with stuff turned on lights full beam, heater, rear demist, and so on ,the charging volts went up to 28volts when the revs was at 3000rpm so all good the sparky said, had tester on my truck and there was nothing draining the battery
turns out my earth straps from the battery trays where dirty both sides i gave them a clean and its been 6wks and all is good so far,and its been sitting for 2wks and not moved out of the gararge, now saying that you watch i go out and it will be flat after writing this post
better go and check

And

What were your ignition lights doing when you turned the power on but not the starter?
I will check my earth leads tomorrow.

Re: A Question For Electrical Gurus
yep my tractor(saf) started fine, dash lights are fine before and after glow, thats how i could tell if the battery was flat they would be dul before i fixed the earth straps
Re: A Question For Electrical Gurus
Found the source of the voltage drain: stereo converter located in the passenger side footwell had moisture and shit loads of mud in it. Took a couple of hours to clean, now all siliconed. Still problem with alternator. Have it out and with other dead one I have, Rick reckons he may be able to put something together. Batteries all seem OK for it all. Hopefully won't cost me too much after all.
