Late notice, but I'm heading up both of these tomorrow, Sat the 14th, for a perve, meet in Ashurst main street by the dairy if you wanna come, I should be there about 1pm 1:30 at the latest, damn Saturday morning work.

Did ya get around to going up Takapari? Woulda been a real clear day up there. Thought about checking it out also but a load of firewood an a few fishing holes got me busy instead.

Sure did, was fine and clear to start with then clouded in a bit, bit of onfo though, for some unknown reason there is now a big ass LOCKED gate about 500m short of the A-Frame Hut, there are no notices at the beginning of the road and once you reach the locked gate you have to reverse about 250m back down the road, you can't even turn a Suzuki round, I'm going to get a hold of DOC on Monday and find out why there is now a locked gate.

Bugger about the gate, keep us informed of what DOC says. Maybe a booking system of sorts is being put in place to regulate entry (I hope... )

Got anymore info about this "locked gate"?

Spoke to a 4x4'er today who said they went up there on a club trip... today... and went past the A-frame hut. Sorry don't know the guy's name or which club.

I did ring them, got some useless female who said "yes there is a locked gate" but didn't say anymore. She was meant to leave a message with another DOC worker who was meant to ring me back,havn't heard anything yet.
