Jimny safety

Hi Guys,

I was reading on a UK car review site, that Jimnys are very dodgy handling wise, especially on wet roads. Some reviewers going as far as saying they are lethal! Any truth to this..wouldnt mind getting one at some stage.

Just got to remember what these vehicles are designed (for basic offroading) and as such have a high centre of gravity (because of the ground clearance, etc). There are some pretty unstable little town cars out there also. Just drive it like you should, its not a car and needs to be driven differently.

Something thats very light, high off the ground, and has a short wheelbase - be a bit more careful driving it regardless of whether its wet on the ground or not. Never ever try to swerve to avoid anything at high speeds. I know this cause I drive a short wheelbase TJ, which is not as bad in dimensions as a Jimny.

so there is no inherant dangerous fault in them..just poor driving that may cause them to roll?

Says it all. If it was inherantly dangerous they would not be able to sell them.

Someone was bitching on the suzuki-forums.com site last year about a "terrible-experience" because he "came to know that it has a terrible grip when cornering in the wet and bouncy handling" and that it rains a lot where he lives.

At the time I posted the comment;
Yes they can be a little bouncy and will slide in the wet, but what did you expect, a 4x4 that handles like a Formula One car?
Drive to suit the road and weather conditions and you shouldn't have any problems.
Oh, and if you end up selling it and buying something that handles like a F1 car in the wet... don't try taking it off road.

I still stand by that comment especially now that my Jimny does more miles off road than on and I have no plans to sell it in the future.
They are what they are and I can't see them being any more dangerous than a bigger vehicle with a lift kit thrown into a corner at more than the recommended speed... they will all fall over if driven recklessly.

I agree with your comments. I have to sensible driving what I drive, particularly on wet roads around sharp corners. Now when I used to have a TransAm, that was different story!!!

Ever drive a 413 on the road, Jimny is about 40 mm wider and I never had a problem with the 413. Got a security company and meter reader company up here who use without problems. Dont beleive everything you read thuiibk about what you are driving if you grew up driving rear wheel drive cars you will love it apart from the fact that they just do not have enough horsepower to hold that BIGGGGG sideways slide for long

i used to have a 410 LWB so know what they are like! Have driven the jimnys at 4wd NZ in rotorua and they seemed fine.

Its just the person posting this seemed so genuine..if you read all the comments he claims to have driven suzukis previously. he goes from saying it is a great vwhicle then then absolutely damning it a few months later..who knows!
