The Vortech unit isn't water cooled as it doesn't get hot. Only the air intake is cooled.
The Harrod unit's block is water cooled as it gets so hot because it's mounted in the valley.

sorry pete your getting a little confused, an intercooler only cools the air which is what the vortech unit is doing via a water/air intercooler.
two different uses for water,
1. cooling the unit. eg turbo or supercharger
2. cooling the air after it has gone through the unit but before it goes into the intake. (eg. vortech)

I have to agree water/air intercoolers aren't much good, but for us 4wheelers that don't go very fast even when our wheels and engines are going full tit, we don't get much air flow so air/air intercoolers are not great either. But then you also have the same issue with the water/air systems because of the heak soak.

Air Air with a fan would be the option I would go for in a 4wd swithced of tps and able to be turned off in water, nothing is really ideal and any charged air intake increases the air temperature. It is the compression that creates the heat and this is where the intercooler usualy works to lower the compressed air temp but the other charger has heat soak from the engine so they also have to cool the unit.

I would have thought they would just put large fins's on it and remove the bonet or install a vent or two to allow air in and out over the charger. Must be serious boost or seriously hot in there to need water cooling the unit.

With the water sprayer running on the intercooler down the quarter there was (on colder day's) some water forming as ice at the other end of the intercooler (outside) Never much but it does show the efficiencies of an intercooler to form Ice (with windchill I guess) on 16 - 18 degree day's in the length of the quarter mile. Not that it was allowed to be used on the track.

nah, that model doesn't put out anywhere near the power of the Vortech. And it gets to hot sitting there.

My mistake. The Harrop superchargers get more low dow grunt than the Vortech. The Vortech is better for the mid to high rev range.
A Harrop's supercharger kit landed with set you back just over 9k. An intercooled Vortech 13k landed. That's an approximate cost.

I got sick of things falling out of the back of the 40. So I managed to find some barn doors to stick on the back. It's away at the panel beaters this week. I get the 40 back this avo. Next week the upholstery dude will shorten the soft top cover to the new doors. Finally I'll be able to put heavy items in the back and not worry about them falling out. Like groceries and shopping stuff.

Just wondering. I've never looked at one closely and always wondered if they did (I'm sure standard size tyres don't ).
Do people ever bother moving the spare mount if they want to throw a 35 on the back or is it easier to put a spare tyre rack on a bumper?

That's a 35 you're looking at on the back there. As i run 35's anything else as a spare wouldn't be helpful.
My brother runs 35's on his 40 and has it strapped down in the back. But then he has no kids, and his isn't a certified 7 seater like my 40.

When my brother first brought his 40 the spare was mounted on the rear left side! Now that location was just asking for trouble.

Any spare mounted on the rear gets in the way and paticluarly on steep departure angles they catch. Especially with bigger heavier tyres you end up cracking all the mounts. My first 40 I had was a SWB and it had an 825x16 SAT on the back and that wheel was farking heavy and I broke the carrier frame 2-3 times and the frame mounts kept on ripping out of the body (with the help of Mr Rust ) and I had to keep getting it welded up. The problem with the 40 was there was no where else to store such a big whell without takeing up the whole back

Theres no room for a 35" tyre in most trucks, Mine would not fit on the back of my BJ74 cause I could not get the door open so I moved it over on a custom bracket only to bust my lail light with it so I made a tail gate for it that lifts it higher than standard and opens and have my spade/ jack holder where the spare would normally go. On another note Pete how do you find your Wranglers?

Really good! They handle cornering on the road really well but only average in the mud.
The 35'' Maxxis i have are way better in the mud but not so good on the road.

Got the soft top cover fitted to the new doors today. Bloody stoked with how it is now.
Only a couple of things to fix on it as far as the rear doors go.
The bottom corners need to be rounded off. They don't rub. But they don't look right.
And the door hinges have to be put around the correct way.
Apart from that. I'm happy as a pig in shit.
