TD42 injector pump mods?

Post by doby »

Yes, more questions about turboing a TD42! Are there any mods or changes I need to make to the injector pump before turboing? Also my truck has done 180,000km, should I chuck a set of main and big end bearings at it when i have the sump off to fit the oil return?

Cheers again :)

worth doing the bearings .i turboed my old patrol at 280000 kms and thought i better put some new shells in , bought them so i could do it over a weekend and discovered the original ones were sweet as .put them in anyway(because i already had them).you will need to give it more diesel after the turbo goes on.when i bought the bearings the big ends are the same as td27 (4 cylinder which is td42 with two cylinders chopped off).hope this helps cheers sig :)

180k is just about run in for a TD42 so don't bother!
As for pump, wind the fuel up a bit but if you are asking these questions then get it done by someone who knows what they are doing. By all means fit the turbo but the tuning takes a bit more than just a twist of the screw.
Nissan Terrano coilovers, turboed VH45, Safari axles, and some other stuff.

Fit a boost gauge and EGT gauge before you play with any fuel pump screws.

Lest your pistons take offense and refuse to do their job any more.

This is all very handy info, keep it coming!

My plan was to get it all fitted up and runing then take it to All Tec Diesel and get them to put it on the dyno and give it a good tune. What should the boost be set at? I dont wont a drag racer, just a bit more power for towing and off road due to runing 35''

How far should the exhaust temp sencer be from the turbo?

Cheers again!

Sounds like a good plan, but the exhaust gas temp sensor should be in the exhaust manifold, before the turbo.
