a question about certs

Post by mercutio »

okay so i killed the diesel i was planning on putting in the g and have been thinking seriously about putting the old 2.8 litre dohc M110 mercedes motor in mainly as it should just bolt straight in as the g wagens came out with these in them standard.
so my question is would i need to get it certified
my 4wd is not a truck

old mercedes never die but sometimes they do need some love

older cars are good, mercedes are better, older mercedes are the best

Put it in, take it for a wof and see. As long as you are not changing diesel - petrol or vice versa.
I would just do it. (but you own mercs, so it will take a while before you get it done anyways :P :P )

if you do a motor transplant and change the size or configeration you are supppsed to but a lot of wof inspecters wont pick up on it if other models of the vehicle have the same motor

LVV Certification is NOT required provided that when compared with the OE engine:
is of the same or less cubic capacity ; and
has equal or less weight ; and
has the same or less power output; and
uses the same fuel (petrol, diesel ,lpg, cng); and
uses the same unmodified attachment points and system (ie bolts in ); and
uses the same ancillary equipment (accelerator linkages etc ); and
uses the same family of block & cylinder head from the same vehicle manufacturer ; and
is of the same configuration.

Getting a certs not hard, the only part thats hard is parting with $350 of hard earnt money that could be better spent on a tank of petrol. With an engine swap all they look at is the accelerator linkage and steering shaft to make sure the throttle dosent get jammed on or the steering dosent getjammed if the engine falls off its mounts. The guy that did mine spent about 20 seconds looking under the bonnet before he closed it and said no problem

 You missed this line
has the same or less power output; and

Considerin the qouted power output of 70hp standard anything short of a fiat bambena motor will be an improvement

Ok how about changing gearboxes?, changing a smaller gearbox to a longer, stronger one?.

If it requires an welds or in the case of the lada (monocoque chassi) any modification to the floor pan then its a basic cert, pretty much visual inspection if you can bolt it in without modifing the body/chassi then no need for cert
as for the motor no stress same hp same fuel no need to worry, so long as you don't do any of the above

From what i read that is indeed the case.

From what i read of the rules, if changing from carby to fuel injection that can be done without a cert, what if the truck was certed for having other mods and on the plate was carb and you wanted to change to fuel injection, would ya have to get a recert?.
