CB arial help

Post by 4X4BEAST »

Hi guys,
I have just purchased a uhf cb radio and need to know of any issues when choosing a position for the arial, I also have a normal radio arial on the front L/H gard and an AM CB arial on the front R/H gard. Are there any issues with having one arial close to another??

Cheers,
Brian.

I have mounted my 2 CB aerials (UHF & AM ) on either side of the bonnet and have no problems with either.
They also don't cause any issues with the stereo or scanner whose aerials are also up front.
Get the aerial mount and correct length cable from DSE also get the UHF aerial with 6db gain - its a little longer than the others but gives better coverage.
There is no mechanical problem so difficult that it cannot be solved by brute strength and ignorance.

The thing to remember is to not cut the cable to length. The length of the cable is tuned to give the best response.

Now have two aerials, One shorter s/s, 4.5db and now a longer fiberglass one, 6db which wil be better suited to highway com's. and the s/s one might be better suited to shorter range in trees or scrub where the longer one will snap off. I knew not to cut the cable. :D

Brian.

check out http://www.mobileone.com.au/antennas/default.htm. I installed this brand aerial and cut cable, not sure if it affected radio performance.

from website FAQ
"What is the truth about coax cable lengths ?
The coax cable should be as short as possible and if In situations where the antenna is already tuned i.e.: UHF
and pre-tuned 27Mhz antennas, the length is not important but still should be as short as possible."

Taken from the site mentioned above:

"The Cable should always be a multiple of 1/2 wave length of the frequency ie: for 27MHz the length
should be either 3.6m, 7.2m, 10.8m or 14.4m etc. In the case of UHF CB it is not important as the
vast majority of UHF antennas are broad band and do not need to be tuned."
