Whale cant swim :(

Post by Shane »

Went for a play at the waimac today in the Safari whale, got stuck in some water/mud approx 3" inside vehicle. After that I had some problems with the auto not changing gear, starting in 2rd and not changing up etc(power light/glow plug light flashing)could be water in fuse box area or P.C.M/connections etc.Is the P.C.M located in the left front kick panel?Has anyone had this happen?Auto has been rebuilt by last owner pretty sure thats fine.
Still it was good fun :D

Raised springs arrive next month, std saged springs up to Feck all

Thanks Shane

How is the engine running? One thought, that ill tell you for free but cost me 500 bucks is get under your truck and have a good look for stones and any thing else out of the ordinary.

My Surf had a rock stuck above the transfer case that neither i or the mech saw and spent shit loads of time trying to find out why it was running like shit and several warning lights flashed or stayed on. Who knows why but give it a try and if i save you any $ maybe we could go halves! :)

Oh and have you checked your gearbox oils

Trans control unit

Post by Benzev »

You've more than likely waterlogged your transmission control unit and most likely fried it as a result! Stuck in 2nd is the default gear that is selected for limphome mode! The trans control unit is located under the centre console on the floor I think although the last time I worked for Nissan was back in 1998 and have been working on European rubbish since then so the old memory could be foggy after that many years! It's definitely close to the floor! If you locate it you'll probably find that it has taken on water in which case it's more than likely a visit to the wreckers to get a new control unit!!!

Thanks for your help guys all sorted
I dryed the P.C.M out in the L/F kick panel, auto working fine again(was quite wet)also dryed out the one on the right hand side possabley for glow plugs?? (has NGK spark plugs.co on it)that was wet also.
well relocate both of them a little higher under dash as they both have enough wiring to do so.Just need to check trans fluid make sure no water got in.

Move the comp, this is a problem that occurs to a SWB Nissan of a friend of mine, everytime he gets water in it the auto plays up and we have to pull it out and dry it.
Best fix is to get yourself two plugs and make up an extension cord so you can relocate it to the glove box :P
